Two yet unreleased Canon cameras showed up at a Russian certification authority. And there is an interesting fact with this registration.

The two unreleased cameras have the code-names DS126841 and DS126842. The interesting fact is, that they are mentioned along with the code-name for the Canon EOS 90D, that’s DS126801, as you can see in the image on top.

What does that mean? Do these two cameras feature an APS-C sensor? Or might they be the fabled EOS R camera with APS-C? In any case, time ago we got a suggestion that the EOS 90D might not get replaced.

Any ideas what these two cameras might be?

Once again we get a suggestion in our inbox saying Canon will not release a successor to the EOS 90D. No more xxD DSLRs?

The source states that Canon will not release a replacement for the Canon EOS 90D. At least not as a DSLR. Not the first time we hear this. Apparently Canon sees no more reasons to invest in consumer DSLR and wants to fully switch to mirrorless technology. Not sure how reliable this rumor is. Or maybe it’s just me not wanting Canon to kill the xxD lineup. I owned Canon EOS xxD DSLRs since the EOS 40D and in my opinion they should not stop producing xxD cameras. But who am I to tell? I just love Canon EOS xxD cameras.

Can the EOS M lineup replace the EOS xxD lineup? Not really. The EOS M does not have a comparable native lens ecosystem and I think users who love the Canon’s xxD DSLRs are not yet ready to fully embrace mirrorless technology. When I have to choose between my EOS 80D and my EOS M3 I usually choose the former. It’s just better ergonomics for me.

So, not sure how much I believe this rumor. However, I wonder what would be the name of an EOS 90D replacement, if one will be released. EOS 95D? What do you think?

Canon EOS 90D Firmware Update Adds 24p in Full HD and 4K Video

Here is the Canon EOS 90D firmware update. A firmware update with the same features for the Canon EOS RP has also been released today

Firmware 1.1.1 adds the much requested feature of 24p video in both full HD and 4K. Customers asked (loudly) and Canon delivered (quickly). Support for two lenses was also added (see below).

Firmware Version 1.1.1 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:

  1. The option to capture both 4K and Full HD movies in the frame rate of 23.98p has been newly added
  2. Fixes an issue where error code “Err 01” may be displayed when using EF 85mm f/1.8 USM or EF 100mm f/2 USM lenses.
