No Canon EOS 90D coming in 2018? [CW2]

Eos 90d

We got a Canon EOS 90D rumor (thanks).

Unfortunately, we did not get hints about the specifications. The source suggests Canon might not announce the replacement for the Canon EOS 80D in 2018. The Canon 90D will be a 2019 affair, apparently.

This contrasts with another early EOS 90D rumor, which surfaced back in July 2017 and was suggesting a 2018 announcement. However, I had a quick look at Wikipedia to check when the previous models of the EOS xxD series have been announced. Let’s have a look before going on.

  • Canon EOS 40D – August 2007
  • Canon EOS 50D – October 2008
  • Canon EOS 60D – August 2010
  • Canon EOS 70D – July 2013
  • Canon EOS 80D – February 2016

As you can see, intervals between an EOS xxD model and its replacement were getting longer with recent models. It was two year between the EOS 50D and the EOS 60D, and it’s three years since the EOS 60D, before the EOS 70D and EOS 80D were announced. A three years interval before we see the EOS 90D fits in this pattern. I rate it CW2 because it comes from a new source (albeit with good points).

We can only guess what the EOS 90D will have on board. We got hints for a 28MP sensor on the EOS 7D Mark III. Maybe the same sensor is going to be featured also on the EOS 90D.

Stay tuned.

New Canon gear has been registered at certification authority (EOS 90D or 5Ds Mark II too?)

canon rumors

Nokishita posted a list of yet unannounced Canon gear that has been registered at certification authorities, and one of the cameras could point to the EOS 90D or EOS 5Ds R Mark II.

At the bottom at the list there is a camera that could easily be Canon’s modular Multi-Purpose Camera MM100-WS, of which the company recently announced the development. The second camera in the list (D126741) cold be the replacement for the EOS 80D or EOS 5Ds, for the reason that no Bluetooth module is present which leads to the assumption that no GPS is featured. Actually the only Canon DSLRs eligible for replacement that to not have GPS are the EOS 80D and EOS 5Ds. While registrations at certification authorities usually mean an announcement isn’t far away, I doubt Canon will announce the EOS 90D in 2017. Both the EOS 90D and the replacement for the EOS 5Ds will be a 2018 affair.

In the list we also find the PowerShot G1 X Mark III (which I do not longer think will be be announced in September 2017), another PowerShot camera, and the Rebel T7.

No one knows the exact release date for the Canon EOS 90D and 7D Mark III but they try

canon rumors

Pointless rumors surfaced on the web. Announcement dates for the Canon EOS 90D and EOS 7D Mark III are suggested.

The first half of 2018 is when Canon is said to announce the 90D and 7D3.

It’s way too early for a reliable rumor about the announcement for these cameras. Pointing to CP+ for the announcement of at least one of these DSLRs makes sense but still is pure speculation.

We knew the announcement date of the EOS 6D Mark II only a few weeks before it happened, after many supposed announcement dates that all were wrong. The approximately one dozen of wrong announcement dates for the 6D2 all came from the same source that’s now suggesting the dates for the EOS 90D and 7D Mark III.

Enjoy the camera you have and don’t waste time with rumors.
