Canon EOS M3 review (improved AF, excellent image quality, ephotozine)

Canon EOS M3

ephotozine posted their review of the Canon EOS M3. As all other reviews so far, the lack of native lenses is highlighted. In the conclusion they write:

As a camera (and if you ignore the lack of native lenses) the Canon EOS M3 deliver high image quality, with good noise performance up to and including ISO6400, and the camera has siginificantly improved focus performance, making it almost as quick as other mirrorless cameras, and quicker than some. Images have excellent colour and exposure, and look good on the tilting 3 inch touch-screen. For a Canon user with a number of EF lenses, then the EOS M3 would make an excellent companion to another DSLR, letting you use your favourite lenses with a smaller camera body. However, the EOS M3 will look much more apealling, if and when the price comes down to a level more in line with the competition.

A good review for those who want to learn more about Canon’s third mirrorless camera. To see all our EOS M3 coverage click here.

Canon EOS M3 review (What Digital Camera)

What Digital Camera posted their review of the Canon EOS M3. In the conclusion:

There’s no denying that the EOS M3 is a huge improvement on the original EOS M1. To begin with it’s compact and impressively well made, with a control layout that makes it a pleasure to use.

[…] The camera’s autofocus speed is a huge improvement on its predecessor, although it does still lag some way behind notable competitors.

Image quality is also improved, with the new sensor delivering some impressive results including a huge amount of detail and low noise at lower ISO settings.

There are areas in which the new camera is still lacking, however. Notably, the relatively slow burst mode and small buffer make the M3 feel a bit dated […]

Canon EOS M3 Review (Camera Labs)

Camera Labs posted an exhaustive review of Canon’s EOS M3 mirrorless camera. Lots of sample videos and pics included.

From the conclusion:

At a time when many new cameras represent very minor updates over their predecessors, it’s refreshing to discover just how much Canon has improved on the EOS M3. Pick it up and you’ll notice the chunkier and more comfortable grip straightaway. Start setting-up the camera and you’ll appreciate the presence of dedicated mode and exposure compensation dials, along with three customizable buttons. During composition you’ll appreciate the convenience of a screen that now tilts 45 degrees down or up by 180 degrees to face you for selfies or filming pieces to camera. Prefer to compose with a viewfinder? You can now slot one onto the hotshoe. Need more light? There’s now a popup flash. Half-press the shutter release and you’ll notice the focusing is faster than before. Fancy sharing an image? Wifi with NFC makes it a doddle and once you get your photos on a bigger screen you’ll also notice they’re packed with detail and low noise.

Canon EOS M3 sample pics and Auto-Focus test

Above: EOS M3 AF performance

Chinese site Mobile01 posted a review about the Canon EOS M3. There is a huge set of sample pics (can be viewed full size), and videos that compare the AF performance of the EOS M3 to the EOS M2.

I was impressed by the high ISO performance:

Mobile01‘s review comes also with a lot of product images. Thought it was worth to post even if the review isn’t in English. The sample pics (all ISO settings) provided with the review are pretty useful to learn about the EOS M3’s performance.
