New bits about the Canon EOS 6D Mark II were sent in (thanks).
I have been told that Canon’s replacement for the highly popular [shoplink 7139]EOS 6D[/shoplink] will be announced not earlier than Q1 2016. In other words, the EOS 6D Mark II will be announced after the EOS 5D Mark IV started shipping (this is not entirely new since it was already murmured on the web). I also got some specs:
28MP
6 fps
ISO 100 – 102400 (expandable to 204800)
new AF system (but not the same as on 5DS)
98% viewfinder coverage
Single SD card slot
WiFi, NFC, and GPS
small improvements for video features
Contrary to a previous rumor that was floating around some weeks ago, suggesting the EOS 6D2 will have a 24MP sensor, our source stated that it will be a 28MP sensor. The source said that Canon will not sell a full-frame DSLR with the same pixel count as Canon’s latest Rebels. The source was a bit confusing about the auto-focus system, saying that it will not be on the same level as the AF system featured on the EOS 5DS and EOS 5DS R. Still, it is not clear to me what kind of AF is coming. For sure there will be a step forward compared to the 6D, but given the fact the EOS 6D Mark II will be an entry-level DSLR, it won’t probably be a the most advanced AF system. I guess Canon will recycle one of the AF system they already feature on some of their DSLRs.
I rate this rumor CW3. It’s still early for reliable EOS 6D Mark II rumors. However, this is one of the not so weird 6d2 rumors we had so far. We heard pretty amusing things, like that Canon isn’t satisfied with the EOS 6D sales figures, and will hence move the 6D2 upmarket (which is absurd, the 6D was and is a best seller). The source stated clearly that the EOS 6D Mark II will be an entry-level FF DSLR, exactly like its predecessor. The pricing should be around $2,100, same as the 6D when it was introduced.
The EOS 6D was released in November 2012. Stay tuned….
About our rumor rating:
CW1 – probably fake rumor, not reliable (less than 15% chance to be real)
CW2 – rumor from an unknown/new source, but otherwise at least a plausible rumor (20%-49% chance to be real)
CW3 – around 50% chance to be real, coming from a known source, or from new source with good insight in Canon’s business
CW4 – rumor from a known source that was right in the past, high probability to be true (60%-80% chance to be real)
Looks like the announcement of Adobe Lightroom 6 is imminent. Fuji Rumors spotted a teaser for “something really BIG” at lightroomkillertips. Scott Kelby isn’t explicitly mentioning LR6, but we think it is very likely that Lightroom 6 will be announced tomorrow. Writes Scott Kelby:
OK, for us, things don’t get much bigger than this — now, unfortunately I can’t tell you actually what it is that’s coming Tuesday, but it’s SO BIG that we’re doing FOUR free live Webcasts on Tuesday and you’re invited (if you’re a photographer, you’re going to want to be there to see and talk about this big secret thingy).
After yesterday’s rumour about two possible EOS 5D Mark IV models (5D Mark IV and 5Dc Mark IV), EOSHD posted a tip they received from a “NAB show visitor […] who had spoken off the record to Canon“:
[Canon] believes a 4K 5D Mark IV would completely overshadow the recently released C100 Mark II and so wouldn’t happen, but that Canon LOG would likely go into the camera to allow shot-matching with the XC10.
Doesn’t sound totally implausible. However, as usual with rumours we have to wait for the very last moment to be sure what is going on in Canon’s labs. The big question is if Canon will really make a 5d4c beside the 5d4. My guess is they will, though it may have a different moniker.
Sometimes rumours refer to prototypes, and not always sources hit the mark when it comes to specs. Take the T6i and T6s as an example. No one knew about these two Rebels until the very last moment, but some of the specs had already leaked. I got this rumour about a DSLR positioned between the upcoming new Rebel and the 70D, but at the time, and for the following months, there were no rumours suggesting two new Rebels (though bits of the specs surfaced). The rumour about a DSLR positioned below the [shoplink 14246]Canon EOS 70D[/shoplink] and above the [shoplink 27620]EOS 750D/Rebel T6i[/shoplink] turned out to be real, but we didn’t know which model it would be for long time after we got the rumour.
Stay tuned, the EOS 5D Mark IV is coming and we will soon start to know more.
I have been told (thanks) that Canon will announce two versions of the EOS 5D Mark III successor: the EOS5D Mark IV and the EOS 5D Mark IVc. The former will be a “straight” update to the EOS 5D Mark III, the latter will be more video oriented, and it will feature 4k (while the Mark IV will not).
The source suggests that the 5D Mark IVc will have a lower resolution sensor than the 5D Mark IV, and that some of the technologies featured on Canon’s Cinema cameras will be sported on the 5D Mark IVc. The source also mentioned that the 5D Mark IVc will have the dual-channel readout of the EOS C300 Mark II (this rumor was already floating around the web).
I have some new specs to report. The source stated that the 5D Mark IVc will have
18MP
61 point AF system
ISO 100-204.800
4k video (source says Canon has yet to define the frame rate)
Dual Pixel AF III
Many advanced video features
Features taken from Canon’s Cinema cameras
An interesting point: the source stated that Canon has yet to mark the frame rate for 4k video recording on the 5D Mark IVc. Apparently there are some heat issues with the frame rates Canon wants to deliver, which could be due to firmware problems.
The “straight” 5D Mark IV may have the following specs;
28MP sensor
12fps
Dual Pixel AF III
New and more advanced AF system (compared to [shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink]), apparently it will not be the same AF as the 5D Mark IVc (which sounds a bit weird to me)
Anti-flickr technology (seen first on the [shoplink 22664]EOS 7D Mark II[/shoplink])
In general, expect many of the technologies Canon unveiled with their latest cameras to be featured on the EOS 5D Mark IV and 5D Mark IVc. Announcement of both cameras is expected between Summer and Fall 2015.
Stay tuned, and let me know what you think….

More tidbits about the upcoming 4k camera that Canon will most probably announce for NAB 2015.
Previously, the camera leaked during a presentation in China (see pics above and below). Now, new rumors suggest Canon’s 4k offering will have about 10-12 stops of latitude and will shoot C-Log. Moreover, the camera is said to have a removable grip and a removable viewfinder (for mounting on drones?).
