A new rumor with uncertain reliability surfaced from the deep corners of the interweb. Two new lenses are rumored: RF 15-30mm IS STM and RF 24mm f/1.8.
The rumor originated on 5channel, an anonymous bulletin board. The full list of rumored gear:
RF15-30mm IS STM (f number unknown)
EW-73E
E-67II
RF24mm F1.8
EW-65B
E-52II
LP1016
EW-73E
The lenses seem to be for full frame imaging sensors and might be budget lenses, given that they are driven by STM. Hard to say if this comes from an insider or is just bs spread on an anonymous forum. It has to be said that there are two Canon patents that seem to refer to these lenses. The patent applications refer to a RF 24mm f/1.8 and an RF 16-30mm f/4-5.6.
A new rumor surfaced, suggesting Canon might announce two lenses: an RF 70-300mm f/2-4L IS And RF-S 33mm f/1L.
We do not think the rumor is reliable. f/2-4 and f/1 (for APS-C sensors) sound very unlikely to us. The source claims:
Canon RF-S 33mm f/1L USM lens
Canon RF 70-300mm f/2-4L IS USM: 1.6kg zoom lens that still has a large aperture of f/2.4 at 150mm. The image quality at 300mm should be equal to or even better than the already discontinued Canon EF 300mm f / 4L IS USM lens.
Beware of rumors surfacing a few days after Canon announced a new camera. They usually are not reliable, especially not when they are long running and constantly rescheduled like the high resolution Canon EOS R rumor.
However, a new rumor with high confidentiality surfaced, suggesting Canon might announce a high resolution EOS R model in 2023. A high resolution EOS R model is rumored since the inception of the EOS R system. It’s a “sooner or later is has to happen”-rumor, as we saw many others in the last 12 years.
The high resolution EOS R is said to get announced in the first half of 2023 with a development announcement coming towards the end of 2022. If you want to browse all “high resolution EOS R” rumors of the last years have a look here. Yeah, no doubt Canon will sooner or later release such a camera.
Stay tuned for more rumors galore, and take everything with a huge grain of salt.
This happens every time Canon releases a new camera: lots of fake rumors trying to capitalize on the hype. This time it is an alleged RF-S 22mm f/2 STM lens.
An image of an alleged RF-S 22mm f/2 STM pancake lens surfaced on a website already known to spread false rumors. Our sources confirmed the image is not real. You can see the fake RF-S 22mm f/2 STM lens on top.

As usual a few days after the announcement of a new Canon camera, a new rumor surfaces suggesting Canon RF-S lenses for the new Canon camera.
The Canon EOS R7 and EOS R10, Canon’s first EOS R models with an APS-C imaging sensor, have been announced a fews days ago. Along with the EOS R7 and EOS R10, two RF-S lenses have also been announced. And here is the list of the next RF-S lenses that might get announced:
RF-S 22mm F2 STM
RF-S 11-55mm F4-4.5 IS STM
RF-S 55-250mm F4.5-7.1 IS STM
RF-S 6-55mm F2.8 IS USM
RF-S 32mm F1.4 STM
Hard to say how reliable the list is. Some of the lenses are just “common sense” lenses, meaning it is very likely Canon will announce them, sooner or later (22mm & 32mm, for instance). Generaly speaking, the list above reminds the EOS M system. Nothing strange in Canon replicating their EF-M lenses to the RF-S system.
What are your thoughts about the RF-S lenses list? Reliable?
