Is The Canon EOS R10a Canon’s Next Mirrorless For Astrophotography (2023?)

canon eos ra astrophotography

Is Canon set to release a Canon EOS R10a camera for astrophotography? That’s suggested in a rumor we got.

The no longer available Canon EOS 60Da was the last astrophotography-dedicated camera with an APS-C sensor Canon released (in 2012). Then we got the little talked about Canon EOS Ra (released at the end of 2019 and also no longer available). It’s a mistery to me why the EOS Ra was so neglected by reviewers and users.

Is the next Canon camera for astrophotography on its way? Maybe it is. The rumor we are reporting comes from a known source but there is no clear indication of a release date and some things might have got lost in translation. We consider the rumor to have some likelihood to be reliable yet recommend you apply an appropriate amount of salt. The fact that the EOS Ra has already reached end of life might be a sign that the rumor is not just a fantasy.

As for the announcement, from the message we got we understand that it will not happen in 2022. Some indications in the message point to an announcement in Q1/Q2 2023. Time will tell.

Specifications-wise you might expect the same as in the EOS R10 with the exception of the removal of low pass filters on the imaging sensor and the usual tricks to get the right wavelengths for astronomy photography.

Stay tuned.

Is A Canon EOS R7 C (Cinema) Camera Coming In 2023?

canon eos r7 C

Another rumor from the series “it will happen sooner or later”.

Latest murmurings have it that Canon might release a Canon EOS R7 C mirrorless camera somewhere in 2023. That’s the Cinema edition of the just announced Canon EOS R7.

Says the source of the rumor:

The Canon EOS R7 C will record 7K60P in Cinema RAW Light and will reportedly have the same codec options as other Cinema EOS cameras, including the Canon EOS R5 C.

The source is quite confident about the rumor, despite the camera being scheduled to get announce in 2023 (according to the same source). That’s a bit of rather distant in the future to make any reliable claim, in our opinion.

That’s all, folks. Stay tuned.

Canon Might Release A Mirrorless Camera Like The Nikon Z 30 In 2022

nikon z 30

Just two days after Nikon announced the Nikon Z 30, we already have a rumor suggesting Canon will release a similar camera. Isn’t that like magic?

Latest murmuring has it that Canon might release a mirrorless camera similar to the Nikon Z 30 and aimed at vloggers. This camera might be the R100 we reported time ago.

If the rumor is real, this camera m ight well be announced along with the upcoming Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 IS Macro and RF 15-30mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lenses.

Stay tuned.

Canon EOS R1 Now Rumored To Be Announced In Q3 2023

canon rumors canon news eos r7 mark ii canon eos rv

It seems the rumors about the Canon EOS R1 got the usual shift in expectations. Now it is not earlier than the second half of 2023.

The Canon EOS R1, supposed to replace the EOS-1D X series, is now rumored to get announced not earlier than the second half of 2023. Says the source of the rumor:

With Canon and other manufacturers still suffering from inventory shortages, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. We also believe Canon wants to round out the lens lineup further before the EOS R1.

Announcement dates are mostly wild speculation until a few months before the announcement. That Canon will release an EOS R1 model is sure, for that matter, we just do not know Canon’s plans for the release of the EOS R1.

Stay tuned.

Is Canon Set To Announce RF 15-30mm IS STM and RF 24mm f/1.8

canon rumors canon news eos r7 mark ii canon eos rv

A new rumor with uncertain reliability surfaced from the deep corners of the interweb. Two new lenses are rumored: RF 15-30mm IS STM and RF 24mm f/1.8.

The rumor originated on 5channel, an anonymous bulletin board. The full list of rumored gear:

  • RF15-30mm IS STM (f number unknown)
    • EW-73E
    • E-67II
  • RF24mm F1.8
    • EW-65B
    • E-52II
    • LP1016
  • EW-73E

The lenses seem to be for full frame imaging sensors and might be budget lenses, given that they are driven by STM. Hard to say if this comes from an insider or is just bs spread on an anonymous forum. It has to be said that there are two Canon patents that seem to refer to these lenses. The patent applications refer to a RF 24mm f/1.8 and an RF 16-30mm f/4-5.6.

Any idea?

Unlikely Rumor: RF 70-300mm f/2-4L IS And RF-S 33mm f/1L Lenses To Come

canon rumors canon news eos r7 mark ii canon eos rv

A new rumor surfaced, suggesting Canon might announce two lenses: an RF 70-300mm f/2-4L IS And RF-S 33mm f/1L.

We do not think the rumor is reliable. f/2-4 and f/1 (for APS-C sensors) sound very unlikely to us. The source claims:

  • Canon RF-S 33mm f/1L USM lens
  • Canon RF 70-300mm f/2-4L IS USM: 1.6kg zoom lens that still has a large aperture of f/2.4 at 150mm. The image quality at 300mm should be equal to or even better than the already discontinued Canon EF 300mm f / 4L IS USM lens.

According to the source, the RF-S 33mm lens is supported by an already spotted Canon patent application. We do not think this means anything.

Stay tuned…
