well.. all i can say is BOOOOORRRRIIINNNGGGG.

a 650D with the same old sensor and only some video improvements… bah.
    i could not care less.

9 point af with cross sensors.. yeah nice.. but not enough to make me wanna update my aps-c backup body.

image quality for stills will be EXACTLY the same as the 550D for RAW images.
JPG may look better because of better processing… but who cares about JPG?

and a slow pancake lens fore a DSLR.. well yeah.. as if someone would need that.

    canon dissapoints once more.

I wonder if there’s any chance the upcoming mirrorless system could take EOS lenses?

    >40mm pancake..

    Oh my.. fascinating

  • Gabriel

oh, a pentax pancake on a canon camera ;) . not a portrait lenses on aps-c, it makes more sense on FF

    • Al

Depends on what you define as a “portrait” lens. Some people say it’s 50, 85, 135…600mm focal length. Doesn’t matter. It just depends on the photographer.

Ok…I don’t think anyone uses the 600mm as a portrait lens.

Yeah, the 40mm should be a 30mm for apsc. It doesn’t make much sense except for FF. That thing would like tiny on a 5D.

I hope the Rebel has a new sensor…

  • Physica

Actually… is STM just similar to the Micro USM used at the old EF-S 18-55 II USM……?

That what I always talking about……please canon use the Micro USM to all of the other non USM lens instead….. I hate the electric drill on my camera….

BTW , the pancake lens are awesome , very pocketable and the price seems acceptable if it’s US$200 , i will get one even it’s just F2.8….

    • Brendan

I’m guessing with a silver ring the pancake will be on the cheap? (and only aps-c?)

  • janH

welcome to canon brandan, it´s an EF lens… EF-S would be APS-C only.
