Canon EOS 5D Mark IV To Feature 4K Video?

Photobucket

Canon EOS 5D Mark III price check: B&H Photo, Adorama, Amazon USA, Amazon Canada, Canon Canada, Canon USA

Just recently a rumor surfaced stating that Canon may announce the EOS 5D Mark IV at the beginning of 2015. Now I have been told (thanks) that the successor of the EOS 5D Mark III could feature 4k video. The feature is going to be implemented, so the source, to further push the 5D into the videographers domain.

Currently Canon is featuring 4k on the EOS-1D C (Adorama | B&H Photo). It would be a more than welcome move if the 5D Mark IV would deliver 4k! Canon added HD recording to the EOS 5D Mark II, let’s hope the EOS 5D Mark IV will make the next step. Just to remind: full HD has a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 4K has a resolution of 4096 x 2160.

Take it with a grain of salt. Canon has been very smart in keeping their plans secret in the last time. It’s still a long time until we will see the EOS 5D Mark IV.

Canon And Microsoft Sign Patent Agreement

Canon Announcement

Were will this lead? A rather obscure patent agreement between Canon and Microsoft. Will Canon’s imaging technology find its way into Microsoft’s smartphones (made by Nokia)? Looks like.

Press release:

Microsoft and Canon sign patent cross-licensing agreement

REDMOND, Wash., and TOKYO — July 2, 2014 — Microsoft Corp. and Canon Inc. on Wednesday broadened their strategic alliance with the announcement of a broad patent cross-licensing agreement. With this agreement, Microsoft and Canon gain licenses to each other’s highly valued and growing patent portfolios.

“This collaborative approach with Canon allows us to deliver inventive technologies that benefit consumers around the world,” said Nick Psyhogeos, general manager, associate general counsel, IP Licensing of the Innovation and Intellectual Property Group at Microsoft. “Microsoft believes cooperative licensing is an effective way to accelerate innovation while reducing patent disputes.”

This agreement covers a broad range of products and services each company offers, including certain digital imaging and mobile consumer products. Microsoft and Canon have a long history of collaborating to bring high-quality, cutting-edge products to consumers, including color technology. Contents of the agreement will not be disclosed.

“This agreement is a natural extension of our longstanding relationship with Microsoft and commitment to developing innovative technologies,” said Hideki Sanatake, senior general manager, Corporate Intellectual Property & Legal Headquarters of Canon Inc.

Canon EOS 7D Replacement NDAs To Expire Early September

Canon EOS 7D Replacement
Fake EOS 7D Mark II (mock-up)

I (thanks) and others have been notified that the NDAs (non disclosure agreements) for the EOS 7D replacement will expire early September.

CR speculates the dates could be either September 9 (Tuesday) or September 12 (Friday), 2014. They also got rumor that a new telephoto lens could be announced along with the EOS 7D replacement.

I always thought that the rumored announcement date in August was a bit weird. It’s hard to differentiate serious rumors from the rest. Photokina 2014 starts September 16, 2014, so an announcement during the first weeks of September makes sense.
