These Canon products will be announced next [CW4]

rebel t6i

A list of certification information for Canon products leaked at Nokishita Camera. Pretty safe to assume that these are the products Canon is set to announce soon, likely before CP+ in January.

Please note that the DSLRs listed at the top are the replacements for the Rebel T6s and Rebel T6i. The mirrorless camera is likely the one rumored a few days ago. The other items in the list are PowerShot cameras, of which the PowerShot G9 X Mark II was already expected.

A better 18-135mm IS STM lens coming for the EOS M system? [CW2]

eos m5

We know Canon will release new lenses for the EOS M system in 2017. Rumor had it, there will be at least one prime lens to come (though two are rumored, a 35mm and a 50mm).

I got word (thanks) that Canon may announce an 18-135mm IS STM lens of “higher quality” than the available EF-M lenses. I interpret “higher quality” as referring to a lens with better optics and a constant and possibly fast aperture. Unfortunately, I have not received any specification for such a lens, and I didn’t spot any patent for an EF-M 18-135mm IS STM lens so far.

There is only one thing you can be sure about: there will be new lenses for the [shoplink 6091]EOS M[/shoplink] system in 2017, we just have no idea what lenses to expect.

Stay tuned…

Photographer and reviewer Dustin Abbott posted his final review of the [shoplink 42703]Sigma 12-24mm f/4 Art[/shoplink] lens.

From the conclusion:

Overall the Sigma 12-24mm f/4 DG HSM ART is a very competent lens. It has few major flaws. Chromatic aberrations are well controlled, distortion is low, and vignette, while clearly present at f/4, isn’t quite as bad as some of the recent releases from other major companies.  It does a very credible job when shooting the night sky, though having a relatively small maximum aperture puts it at a bit of disadvantage […]

It falls a little short of a true 24mm, but that isn’t unusual, and I would argue that the true 12mm on the wide end is ultimately more important. […] One thing to note, […] is that the 12-24 ART is optimized for f/4-5.6 performance (at least on the wide end of the focal range) and I actually saw a trend where the image quality tended to be a bit worse rather than better as the lens was stopped down.

You can go for the written review, or watch the two videos below to learn about the Sigma 12-24mm f/4 Art.

A new entry-level Canon EOS M camera coming soon? [CW4]

eos m

Hot times for Canon mirrorless rumors. A new murmuring surfaced, and we are here to report it.

Latest rumor has it that Canon will announce a new EOS M camera in February 2017, just before CP+. This new EOS M is said to be more entry-level than the [shoplink 40697]EOS M5[/shoplink], with a form factor similar to the [shoplink 29518]EOS M3[/shoplink]. A new entry-level EOS M camera to be added to the line-up?

New Canon EOS M cameras and other kits will likely come in two variants, one with the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM, and the other kit with the EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM.

What about new EF-M lenses? There will be new EF-M lenses in 2017, but we do not have reliable information at the time being.

There are more Canon cameras I expect to be announced ahead of CP+, PowerShot cameras and new Canon Rebel DSLRs.

Stay tuned…
