Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art review (Camera Labs)

Sigma 24-35mm F/2

Camera Labs reviewed the Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art lens. One of Sigma’s latest addition to their highly regarded “Art” line-up. Once more, a review that praises the virtues of this lens. Please note: the Sigma 24-35mm f/2 was tested on a Nikon D810.

If you’re looking for a wide-angle lens on a full-frame body you may consider the Sigma 24-35/2.0 DG HSM Art the ideal candidate: It covers three customary focal lengths (24/28/35mm) in one bright f2.0 zoom that performs as you would expect from a member of Sigma’s highly acclaimed “Art” series: It’s sharp at all focal lengths, has relatively little vignetting for such a wide-angle lens and shows only little longitudinal CAs and moderate coma. The build-quality supports Sigma’s claim to have developed and manufactured a lens to professional standards although there’s no weather sealing at the lens-mount. But other than that the Sigma 24-35mm f2.0 DG HSM Art plays on a very high level and as such earns our Highly Recommended rating. Read the review…

Canon EOS-1D C replacement to feature 8K? [CW3+]

EOS-1D C

I’ve been told (thanks) that the Canon DSLR rumored to be announced in 2017 and to feature 8K video, will be a sort of successor or replacement for the Canon EOS-1D C. For the time being I can not confirm it will be named Canon EOS-1D C Mark II, nor do I have any other hint about specs and moniker.

An EOS-1D C replacement with 8K makes sense. The EOS-1D C was announced in 2012 and released in 2013. The EOS-1D C was the first DSLR to meet the European Broadcasting Union HD Tier 1 requirements for use in HD broadcast production. And it is a highly regarded professional DLSR in this domain (and for professional still photography). Something that reflects in the price, $8000. The EOS-1D C features 4K, so it’s likely that Canon will add 8K in its successor.

8K video means that every frame has a 33MP resolution. While this will have a great impact on the processing capabilities of your computer, it means also that new ways to make photography are coming. Just think you can shot an 8K video in a complex setting, and afterwards choose the frames you want to have as photos. Not bad, eh?

Canon EOS M10 for videographers – a review by Cinema5D

Cinema5D posted a short review about the Canon EOS M10 from a videographers point of view. Pretty interesting.

From the conclusion:

The Canon EOS M10 is an entry-level large sensor camera. If you are willing to compromise functionality and video quality, this is the camera for you. Personally, I find it hard to work in bright daylight without an EVF. Also, no audio input is an obstacle for me when it comes to documentary style shooting.

On the other hand, if you like that “Canon look”, this camera certainly has it. Furthermore, if you are a Canon user who is looking for a B camera to have in your bag, this might be a perfect option if you’re on a budget. Read the review…

For the time being I have no clear idea how well the  EOS M10 is selling.
