We can expect some more gear announcement by Canon within 2020.

It seems two different timeframes are to expect for announcements, one in August/September and another one towards November and December. However, to us it seems weird that Canon might announce gear in December, and August is almost over (but still rumored for announcements).

Canon Might Announce Two EOS Cinema 8K Cameras In 2021

C300 Mark Iii Canon Firmware Updates 8k Cameras

Canon might well be set to announce and release two new 8K-capable EOS Cinema cameras next year.

The first of these 8K Cinema cameras will be the next flagship, boosting some pro-oriented features.

The other one will be a modular and more similar to the Cinema EOS C300 Mark III and Cinema EOS C500 Mark II cameras.

No price nor specifications so far. We assume that Canon might announce these cameras around April 2021, i.e. when NAB 2021 is scheduled.

Rumor has it that Canon will soon launch the Canon Cinema EOS R lineup, Cine cameras with RF mount.

Two Cinema cameras with RF mount are rumored:

Canon Cinema EOS R200 (name not confirmed)

An RF mount Canon Cinema camera is rumored since a few months. Here are the alleged specifications.

Canon is rumored to announce a Cinema camera with RF mount in August 2020. These are the rumored specifications:

  • Same Super35 sensor as the Canon Cinema EOS C200
  • Internal ND filters (mechanical) up to 6 stops
  • 2x Mini XLR inputs
  • Full-size HDMI
  • 4K 4:2:2 10bit in ALL-I and IPB up to 120p
  • 1x CFexpress Type B Slot
  • 2x SD UHS-II slots
  • External RAW recording options up to 4K 120P
  • 2x LP-E6NH batteries
  • Camera size smaller than the EOS-1D X Mark III
  • Price: $4499 USD

Along with this RF mount Cinema camera, Canon might also release these adapters:

  • PL to RF with Cooke/i
  • EF to RF focal length reducer (speed booster)

Tokina announced a new cine lens, the Tokina 25-75mm T2.9. Available for Canon EF and other mount types.

Tokina Cinema introduces the 25-75mm T2.9 cinema lens. The new lens is a small size ground-up true cinema design featuring a compact 174mm overall length, industry standard 0.8 MOD cinema gears, T2.9 iris, 86mm filter thread, and 95mm front diameter for common cinema accessories.

The new 25-75mm T2.9 is designed to cover super35+ type sensors up to 36mm image circle size. The larger 36mm image circle enables native coverage of RED Helium 8K, RED Dragon 6K, RED Monstro 6K, Alexa LF in 4K UHD, as well as popular cinema and mirrorless cameras from Canon, Blackmagic Design, and Panasonic in 4K DCI or 4K UHD.

When paired with the Tokina Cinema 1.6x Expander for PL or EF mount versions, the lens becomes a compact size 40-120mm T4.2 that covers Full Frame and Vista Vision 6K and 8K size sensors.

The 25-75mm is designed to match the mechanical and optical properties of the popular Tokina Cinema 50-135mm T2.9 MKII and 11- 20mm T2.9 zoom lenses. The 25-75mm retains optical design features similar to the 11-20mm T2.9 and 50-135mm T2.9 MKII including parfocal design to retain focus while zooming, limited focus breathing, and low distortion. Suggested retail price for the 25-75mm T2.9 is $5799 USD and will ship in Spring 2021. All lenses in the series feature an interchangeable mount between PL, EF, Sony E, MFT, and Nikon F mounts.
