Are These The Canon EOS M6 Mark II Specifications?

Canon EOS M6

After yesterday’s rumor about the announcement of the Canon EOS M5 Mark II and EOS M6 Mark II (all rumors), a set of suggested specifications for the upcoming Canon EOS M6 Mark II surfaced.

The Canon EOS M6 Mark II appears to be focused on vloggers:

  • 32.5 mp APS-C CMOS sensor (new sensor technology for higher dynamic range)
  • DIGIC 8+ Imaging Processor
  • 4K up to 30p (with no crop or 1.3x no pixel binning crop), Full HD up to 180p
  • No Canon Log but new Movie Picture Style
  • Dual Pixel AF Focus Guide
  • New Selfie mode and Vlog mode
  • Enhanced Movie IS
  • High-speed continuous shooting at a maximum of 16 FPS (with AE/AF)
  • RAW Burst mode at 30 FPS (with AE/AF)
  • Dual Pixel AF with expanded area
  • Eye AF (tracking possible)
  • Electronic shutter 1/16000s
  • Focus Bracketing
  • Supports external electronic viewfinder
  • USB-C charge power supply

While the specification list above is plausible, we recommend you take it with grain of salt. Lots of low reliability rumors are flooding the Internet, and so far the sources that were right in the past didn’t deliver any bits.

We expect Canon to have an announcement on August 28, 2019. Besides the Canon EOS 90D we expect Canon to announced also the Canon EOS M5 Mark II and the EOS M6 Mark II (leaked through certification authorities). Some new EF-M lenses are also possible.

Stay tuned, more to come soon.

Canon Patent For 12-48mm f/1.8-4.0 Lens For EOS M System

Canon Patent

Canon patent application 2019-120821 (Japan) describes the optical formula for a 12-48mm f/1.8-4 lens for the Canon EOS M mirrorless camera system.

An excerpt from the Canon patent:

[…] provide a zoom lens which is small in the whole lens system, has a wide angle of view, a high zoom ratio, and a large aperture ratio and has high optical performance over an entire zoom range.
[Means for solving]A 1 lens group having negative refractive power, a 2 lens group having positive refractive power, a 3 lens group having negative refractive power, and a 4 lens group having positive refractive power arranged in this order from the object side to the image side, and the 1 lens group is stationary at the time of zooming. In this zoom lens, a 2 lens group, a 3 lens group, and a 4 lens group are moved and an interval between adjacent lens groups is changed. The 4 lens group has 2 or more lenses, and appropriately sets a focal length f 2 of the 2 lens group, a focal length fw of the entire system at the wide-angle end, a moving amount M 2 of the 4 lens group during zooming from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end, and a moving amount M 4 of the second lens group during zooming from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end.

Canon EOS M5 Mark II and EOS M6 Mark II Might Be Announced In August 2019

Canon Eos M5 Mark Ii Mirrorless

As expected, a new rumor confirms an already leaked suggestion that Canon might announce the Canon EOS M5 Mark II and the EOS M6 Mark II (all rumors).

Both cameras have already leaked through certification authorities. We just didn’t know if Canon would announce them along with the EOS 90D, or later on.

Along with the announcement date suggestion, the latest rumor delivers also some basic specifications for the Canon EOS M5 Mark II and EOS M6 Mark II:

  • Internal product name: Project Nacho
  • Both cameras will have a similar EVF to the Canon RP
  • No crop in 4K video
  • Supports high frame rates for slow-motion video

It’s not clear what is meant with “both cameras will have a similar EVF to the Canon RP” since the EOS M5 has a built-in EVF and the EOS M6 has not.

If the August announcement date is correct (we believe it is around 28th), then we should soon see more detailed leaks and images. Stay tuned, more to come soon…

Canon EOS 90D To Be Announced In August 2019?

Canon Eos 80d

After the rumor suggesting Canon will feature IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation) on the Canon EOS 90D, now we have a rumor about the announcement date.

The August announcement was already rumored. Some supposed specifications for the EOS 90D have also leaked. The news are that the EOS 90D (all rumors) announcement could go along with the announcement of other new Canon gear. As we reported, the EOS 90D is most likely the replacement for both the EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II.

According to the source, in August Canon might also announce the replacement for the EOS M5/M6.

Finally, some new lenses are also possible. Since Canon stated there would be no new EF lenses in 2019, you can speculate they will be either EF-M lenses or the already announced yet not released new RF lenses. These are the “holy f/2.8 trinity”: RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS and RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS. Then there is also the RF 85mm f/1.2L DS (DS = Defocus Smoothing“).

Stay tuned.

What’s Next From Canon? (EOS RX/RS, EOS 90D, new Rebel, Cinema Camera, EOS M, 1DX III

Eos 90d

What to expect next from Canon besides the Canon EOS 90D? Let’s sum it up what might happen in the next 3-4 months.

First and foremost, Canon will most likely announce the Canon EOS 90D (all rumors), the APS-C DSLR that will replace both the EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II (we reported). Some specifications for the EOS 90D surfaced.

Canon will also release a new Cinema camera. We think it will be the EOS C500 Mark II but the EOS C300 Mark III (rumored to feature 8K) may also be on Canon’s release radar.

Is a new Canon Rebel DSLR also due? Might be, though we have no reliable intel so far. The same can be said about the next EOS M model. We were expecting a replacement for the EOS M5/M6, but so far nothing appeared on the horizon. The EOS M system is not dead (as many wish/suggest), Sigma just announced they will port three primes to the EF-M mount.

There are two upcoming Canon EOS R cameras. One, which might be announced towards the end of 2019, is the long rumored high resolution EOS R. Some people suggested this camera might be the Canon EOS RS. The other new EOS R model that’s rumored is a pro-oriented, EOS-1D X equivalent full frame mirrorless camera. Canon itself said they might make such a camera. Canon EOS RX surfaced as name suggestion in various spots over the Internet

Finally, we can be reasonably sure that Canon will announced the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III before the Summer Olympics 2020.

Stay tuned…
