New Canon EOS R3 images leaked over the web. Here they are.

The Canon EOS R3 has been announced, bit it was a development announcement. We know a few things about the EOS R3 and it’s all listed here.

  • Full-Frame Stacked BSI CMOS Sensor
  • Eye Control AF, Dual Pixel CMOS AF
  • Subject Tracking with Deep Learning
  • Continuous Shooting Up to 30 fps
  • Integrated Vertical Grip
  • Weather-Sealed Construction

There are also some rumored specifications:

  • 45MP image sensor with pixel-shift
  • Quad-Pixel Autofocus
  • 60 fps with full Quad-Pixel Auto-focus
  • 20 fps mechanical shutter
  • 30 fps electronic shutter
  • New white balance system
  • 8K / 30p RAW shooting

There has been some discussion about who makes the imaging sensor of the EOS R3. You can get notified when the Canon EOS R3 will be available for preorder. Images came via Nokishita.

Canon EOS R3 Price Less Than $6000, In Any Case Less than Sony Alpha 1

A new rumor surfaced, and it’s about the Canon EOS R3 price. Is it reliable?

Latest has it that the Canon EOS R3 price will be below that of the Sony ALPHA 1 ($6,498), maybe even less than $6,000. In other words: the rumor going has it that the Canon EOS R3 might cost $5,999 at launch. Not sure what to think here. The whole rumor sounds a bit like wishful thinking.

However, The Canon EOS R3 development announcement is behind us. We know it’s coming, we know it has a BSI stacked imaging sensor. What else do we know? Here are some rumored specifications (take it with a grain of salt):

  • 45MP image sensor
  • 60 fps full pixel quad-core auto-focus
  • 20 fps mechanical shutter
  • 30 fps electronic shutter
  • New white balance system
  • 8K / 30p RAW shooting

The Canon EOS 90D Might Not Get A Replacement, Rumor

Once again we get a suggestion in our inbox saying Canon will not release a successor to the EOS 90D. No more xxD DSLRs?

The source states that Canon will not release a replacement for the Canon EOS 90D. At least not as a DSLR. Not the first time we hear this. Apparently Canon sees no more reasons to invest in consumer DSLR and wants to fully switch to mirrorless technology. Not sure how reliable this rumor is. Or maybe it’s just me not wanting Canon to kill the xxD lineup. I owned Canon EOS xxD DSLRs since the EOS 40D and in my opinion they should not stop producing xxD cameras. But who am I to tell? I just love Canon EOS xxD cameras.

Can the EOS M lineup replace the EOS xxD lineup? Not really. The EOS M does not have a comparable native lens ecosystem and I think users who love the Canon’s xxD DSLRs are not yet ready to fully embrace mirrorless technology. When I have to choose between my EOS 80D and my EOS M3 I usually choose the former. It’s just better ergonomics for me.

So, not sure how much I believe this rumor. However, I wonder what would be the name of an EOS 90D replacement, if one will be released. EOS 95D? What do you think?

This morning a Twitter user posted three specification sets for three possibly upcoming Cinema EOS cameras. Fake or real?

User how2fly posted more or less at 4am EST on Twitter the following specification sets for yet unreleased and never rumored cameras in the Cinema EOS lineup:

EOS C700DR

Some More Bits About The Canon EOS R3 Specifications (45MP, Quad-Pixel AF)

We already got a few hints about the Canon EOS R3 specifications. Now another source confirmed some of the information we got.

Just to remind you that Canon announced the development of the Canon EOS R3 but said very little about its specifications. Last time we got this list:

  • 45MP image sensor
  • 60 fps full pixel quad-core auto-focus
  • 20 fps mechanical shutter
  • 30 fps electronic shutter
  • New white balance system
  • 8K / 30p RAW shooting

The new suggestion we got confirms the 45MP sensor. The source also added that the EOS R3 will have a pixel-shift feature on board (it was already rumored, and there is also a patent). Pixel-shift would allow to have a higher resolution than the native sensor resolution.

The second feature we got confirmed is Quad-Pixel Autofocus. If you look at the list we got last week, you see “60 fps full pixel quad-core auto-focus”. We think it got somewhat lost in translation: it refers to Quad-Pixel Autofocus, a feature already rumored to come to future EOS R cameras. Several patents have been spotted so far.

So, the new updated Canon EOS R3 specification list:

  • 45MP image sensor with pixel-shift
  • Quad-Pixel Autofocus
  • 60 fps with full Quad-Pixel Auto-focus
  • 20 fps mechanical shutter
  • 30 fps electronic shutter
  • New white balance system
  • 8K / 30p RAW shooting

I am still not entirely sold on the 45MP. Seems a bit high of a resolution for a sports camera. Some ideas?

After today’s leak of a Canon EOS R3 image, we got a set of specifications in our inbox (thanks). Not sure what to think.

These might be the Canon EOS R3 specifications:

  • 45MP image sensor
  • 60 fps full pixel quad-core auto-focus
  • 20 fps mechanical shutter
  • 30 fps electronic shutter
  • New white balance system
  • 8K / 30p RAW shooting

Any ideas? Not sure about the “60 fps quad core AF”.

Expect the Canon EOS R3 to get announced within April 2021. So far we do not know if it will be a development announcement or the real thing.
