Will The Canon EOS 7D Mark II Feature A Full-Frame Sensor? (GPS seems confirmed, UPDATE: FF was typo))

EOS 7D Mark II
The glorious Canon [shoplink 337]EOS 7D[/shoplink] – to be replaced soon

Update: Mr. Klostermann, the author of the cited book, contacted me and explained it was just a placeholder text. The text has now been corrected and there is no longer any mention of “full-frame”.

Original post:
Thanks to readers, I learned about 2 more EOS 7D Mark II books (after this book) that showed up at retailers. There is the “Canon 7D Mk II Experience” and a French book about the 7D Mark II. The latter looking more like a placeholder, the former having a curious description.

The description of “Canon 7D Mk II Experience” (by D.J. Klostermann) starts with the following sentence: “Take control of your Canon 7D Mark II full frame dSLR and the images you create“. Just a typo of the editor/author or a serious hint that the Canon EOS 7D Mark II will sport a full-frame sensor??

Moreover, the author explicitly points to an “introduction to the set-up and use of the camera’s built-in GPS, to geotag and map your photos“. GPS appears to be definitely on board of the EOS 7D Mark II, since it was already rumored previously.

You Can Already Order A Book About The Canon EOS 7D Mark II

Canon EOS 7D Mark II

It’s already possible to order a book on the Canon EOS 7D Mark II. The book is scheduled to be available for 9/27. The text in the pic above says:

  • Planned tax Price: 1,650 yen

It appears the successor of the [shoplink 337]EOS 7D[/shoplink] will eventually have the moniker “Mark II”. Let’s hope for some specs to appear soon.

It’s Real: Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 Otus, Coming For Photokina

zeiss_otus_85f14_001_zpsd91ec6bb

The first image of the upcoming Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 Otus lens showed up on the net.

It’s rumored that the optical performance of the new 85mm /1.4 Otus is better even than the acclaimed [shoplink 16664]Zeiss 55mm f/1.4 Otus[/shoplink] lens. The Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 Otus will first be available with Canon/Nikon mount. Will this be the best full-frame lens on the market?

Zeiss Teaser For Photokina 2014 (85mm f/1.4 Otus coming?) – UPDATE

85mm f/1.4 Otus

Update: PR just posted that they got the confirmation that one of the 2 lenses is the 85mm f/1.4 Otus (ZE, ZF.2 mounts). The other one is the Zeiss Distagon 35/1.4 ZM (Leica mount)

Zeiss is teasing the announcement of 2 new lenses for Photokina 2014.

In the image above you can see the 2 Loxia lenses that have already been announced, and 2 new lenses. One might be the rumoured 85mm f/1.4 Otus lens. A 24mm f/1.4 Otus is also possible. Maybe these are the 2 lenses Zeiss is going to announce.

Canon Set To Announce New Lenses Very Soon (EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM, EF 24-105mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM, EF 400mm F4 DO IS II USM)

400
Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS

Digicame (translated) posted what I am not shy to define as the first reliable rumor on what Canon is going to announce at Photokina 2014. Yes, these lenses are going to be announced at Photokina 2014!

  • EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM
  • EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
  • EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM

The EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM was previously rumored to be an EF lens, instead it is an EF-S lens. Not yet sure if it will be a pancake lens.

The EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM is aimed at full-frame shooters, who will soon enjoy the benefits of the STM technology for their video shooting. This lens will probably be the next kit lens for the 6D. It will for sure be cheaper than an “L” grade lens. No one saw this lens come.

Finally, the EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM lens is the successor to the Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS. Several patents filed by Canon in the past pointed in this direction, the latest patent being this one.

Stay tuned, I am sure pictures will follow soon.
