New Samyang Teaser For Upcoming Lenses (10mm f/2.8 or 35mm with AF?)

Samyang

A new teaser for the lenses Samyang is supposed to announce on March 21st showed up on Samyang Korea’s Facebook page.

According to DicaHub (translated), a new page has been put online at Samyang Korea, and it’s a page dedicated to the 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS lens. So, we still do not know what lenses Samyang will announce on Friday, a 35mm with auto-focus is also rumored.

At least the rumor about Samyang’s new logo was true, as you can see in the image above.

Is This The Price For The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG “Art” Lens ($790)?

Sigma 50mm f/1.4

This comes directly from Sigma Bielorussia (translated), so we can assume they know what they are talking about. If true this would be a killer price, especially if you consider that Sigma aims no less than at the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 with their lens, and the Zeiss is a $3990 lens!

The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG “Art” lens is expected to ship in May 2014.

Samyang To Announce A 35mm Auto-Focus Lens For Canon On March 21st?

Samyang

source: DicaHub (translated)

After having teased new lenses set to be announced on March 21st on their European Facebok page, it seems that the lens (or lenses) Samyang is going to announce on 21st have electronic auto-focus built in. That Samyang could announce such a lens was rumored some time ago.

SLRclub reader Komabea spotted another bit of information on Samyang’s South Korea Facebook page, where a 35mm auto-focus lens is teased. The picture above says:

  • [Samyang is] studying cine zoom lens. There are no exact launching plan.
  • A Canon mount 35mm auto-focus lens is scheduled to be launched 1st half of 2014.
  • Mirror lens for DSLR is also scheduled to be launched 1st half~2nd half of 2014.

So, we learn that Samyang is working on Cine lenses, mirror lenses, and on a 35mm auto-focusing lens for Canon mount. Everything points to an announcement of a 35mm AF lens on March 21st, that’s my speculation. In any case there should be new Samyang lenses coming in Q1-Q2 2014. Stay tuned for more.

Samyang (or Bower or Rokinon or Walimex) lenses are well known for their excellent optical properties, but are all manual lenses. The same built quality and optical performance with AF would be welcome by a lot of people, especially if Samyang can mantain their competitive pricing.

Samyang Set To Announce New Lenses On March 21st

That’s what they posted on their Facebook page:

New stuff from Samyang coming soon, really soon. Stay tuned!

Samyang/Rokinon/Bower lenses are manual lenses, but with excellent optical performance at a more than competitive price. These lenses are so good that the 24mm f/1.4 [shoplink 6265](price & specs)[/shoplink] got the same DxOMark score as Canon’s highly regarded EF 24mm f/1.4L [shoplink 237](price & specs)[/shoplink]. The Canon is sharper and has less distortion but the Samyang produces less vignetting and chromatic aberration are better controlled at all apertures. But then: we are comparing a $669 lens with a another one that costs well over $1700 (the Canon 24mm).

Maybe they will announce new lenses with auto-focus? Rumor has it that Samyang will soon produce lenses with AF.

Canon Powershot SX60 HS To Be Released Soon (and some specs)

Canon Powershot SX60
Canon Powershot SX50 HS

From a new source (thanks) comes the rumor that Canon will soon release the successor of the popular Powershot SX50 HS IS (price & specs), the Canon Powershot SX60 HS IS. The announcement is expected before summer 2014, possibly in the next two months .

There are some new tidbits on the specification front. The Canon Powershot SX60 HS is said to have a 15MP sensor, and to get faster on the wide end. While the SX50 has a maximum aperture of f/3.4, the Sx60 HS is rumored to have f/2.8. The SX60 HS is also said to be wider, 20-1200 in 35mm equivalent instead of the current 24-1200. That would be a 60x zoom, and it fits with the naming scheme: the SX50 had a 50x zoom, so it sounds plausible the SX60 might have a 60x zoom. Finally, there should be improvements for the auto-focus (which is already pretty quick on the SX50).

That’s all I have for the time being. Stay tuned for more.

Another Tidbit About An EOS 7D Replacement With Hybrid Viewfinder

EOS 7D Replacement

I reported about a possible new Canon EOS 7D [shoplink 337](price & specs)[/shoplink] replacement with a hybrid viewfinder before. Now another bit of information showed up on the web suggesting Canon’s next APS-C flagship might feature a hybrid viewfinder. While the rumor I am reporting here suggests that the hybrid viewfinder may not make into the final production model, I have been told that it will.

Some news on the specs front too: a sensor just below 25MP (24MP are rumored), dual card slots (SD + CF), and the 7D replacement is said “to have the most features at the software level of any Canon DSLR ever”. That fits with  earlier rumors, especially with those suggesting the 7D replacement will have innovative video features.

Take all with a grain of salt. The rumors concerning the EOS 7D replacement are somewhat contradicting, and so far nothing is sure. Not even the announcement date, which, seconding the latest rumors, should be somewhen during Q2 2014.
