Canon Might Announce 2 Tilt-shift Lenses (with AF) Along With A High Res EOS R Model

New rumor has it that Canon is set to announce two tilt-shift lenses with auto-focus for the RF mount and a high resolution EOS R model.

Canon Rumors reports that Canon will announce two tilt-shift lenses for the RF mount. These would be the first tilt-shift lenses with autofocus: Canon TS-R 14mm f/4L and Canon TS-R 24mm f/3.5L. No other specifications about these lenses nor do we have a clear announcement schedule. However, we think it is safe to assume Canon will indeed release these lenses, maybe towards the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.

As for the high resolution EOS R we already know that it is coming. Indeed, such a camera is rumored since a while. Latest rumor suggests a sensor resolution of more than 100MP, previous rumors suggested a resolution between 80MP and 90MP. It’s not clear if we can expect the high resolution EOS R in 2021.

Stay tuned.

Canon Might Release a 60mm f/1.0 Lens For The RF Mount

60mm f/1.0

A rumor popped up in our inbox: Canon working on a RF 60mm f/1.0 lens. Plausible?

We did not get any specification for the allegedly upcoming RF 60mm f/1.0 lens. we are a bit out in the rain here. Also, we are a bit surprised by the focal length of 60mm instead of more common 50mm. Wouldn’t it make more sense to bring the legendary Canon EF 50mm f/1.0L to the EOS R system? But maybe the optical design possibilities offered by the RF mount suggest a 60mm is the better option. In any case, it wouldn’t be the first time Canon surprises us.

All in all we think an RF 60mm f/1.0 is definitely possible. Having already an optical masterpiece with the RF 50mm f/1.2 it would probably not make much sense release another optical masterpiece with the same focal length and the “only” benefit of having f/1.0 vs f/1.2. A new 60mm lens would be a different matter, I guess.

All ideas are welcome.

Some More Bits About The Canon EOS R3 Specifications (45MP, Quad-Pixel AF)

canon eos r3 specifications

We already got a few hints about the Canon EOS R3 specifications. Now another source confirmed some of the information we got.

Just to remind you that Canon announced the development of the Canon EOS R3 but said very little about its specifications. Last time we got this list:

  • 45MP image sensor
  • 60 fps full pixel quad-core auto-focus
  • 20 fps mechanical shutter
  • 30 fps electronic shutter
  • New white balance system
  • 8K / 30p RAW shooting

The new suggestion we got confirms the 45MP sensor. The source also added that the EOS R3 will have a pixel-shift feature on board (it was already rumored, and there is also a patent). Pixel-shift would allow to have a higher resolution than the native sensor resolution.

The second feature we got confirmed is Quad-Pixel Autofocus. If you look at the list we got last week, you see “60 fps full pixel quad-core auto-focus”. We think it got somewhat lost in translation: it refers to Quad-Pixel Autofocus, a feature already rumored to come to future EOS R cameras. Several patents have been spotted so far.

So, the new updated Canon EOS R3 specification list:

  • 45MP image sensor with pixel-shift
  • Quad-Pixel Autofocus
  • 60 fps with full Quad-Pixel Auto-focus
  • 20 fps mechanical shutter
  • 30 fps electronic shutter
  • New white balance system
  • 8K / 30p RAW shooting

I am still not entirely sold on the 45MP. Seems a bit high of a resolution for a sports camera. Some ideas?

Stay tuned, stay safe.

P:S:: you can get notified when the Canon EOS R3 will be available for preorder.

Canon Might Announce More RF Mount Super-telephoto Lenses In 2021

RF 600mm f/4L super-telephoto

The Canon RF 400mm and RF 600mm, both announced last week, might not be the only super-telephoto lenses for the RF mount to get released in 2021.

According to a new rumor, at least two more super-telephoto lenses are in development. A Canon RF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM lens might get announced and it could be the smallest and lightest of its kind, with a redesigned optical formula for the RF mount system. A Canon RF 200-500mm f/4L IS USM might also get announced. No more information on this one but it might not have a built-in teleconverter (as the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM 1.4x does).

Stay tuned, and stay safe.

Are These The Canon EOS R3 Specifications?

After today’s leak of a Canon EOS R3 image, we got a set of specifications in our inbox (thanks). Not sure what to think.

These might be the Canon EOS R3 specifications:

  • 45MP image sensor
  • 60 fps full pixel quad-core auto-focus
  • 20 fps mechanical shutter
  • 30 fps electronic shutter

Any ideas? Not sure about the “60 fps quad core AF”.

Expect the Canon EOS R3 to get announced within April 2021. So far we do not know if it will be a development announcement or the real thing.

Stay tuned.
