Photozone tested and reviewed Canon’s new EF 16-35mm f/4L IS lens. In the verdict they write:

The Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 USM L IS is definitely a step forward for Canon. The lens is capable of delivering an impressive performance throughout most of the range but especially between 16-24mm. The center quality is stellar here and the borders and even corners are sharp. It can’t really reach the same level of peak performance at 35mm but it’s no slouch either here. Canon has mastered the handling of lateral CAs – while not completely absent, they are low unless the contrast change is really extreme. The vignetting is typical for a lens in this class so you have to live with visible light falloff at f/4 especially at 16mm. Image distortions can be disturbing at 16mm but if needed you can apply auto-correction in the more popular RAW converters.

Performance appears to be noticeable improved in the 16-20mm range, Photozone recommends the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS over both the [shoplink 246]EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 242]Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM[/shoplink].

Is This The Canon EOS 7D Replacement?

I told you the replacement for the Canon EOS 7D was undergoing professional testing at FIFA 2014 World Cup. Now NL got an image sent in that shows a Canon DSLR that is always covered up. You can see it is a Canon because the lens is made by Canon. According to NL’s source the photographer with the concealed camera is always in the same spot, always shooting with this hidden camera.

I also got serious hints that the NDAs for the EOS 7D replacement will expire at the beginning of September, so the camera in the pic above could definitely be Canon’s new APS-C flagship, and the rumored new 100-400mm telephoto lens.

2 New Colors For The Canon EOS M2 (and a double zoom kit)

Bay blue and red are the 2 new color options for the Canon EOS M2, both available in August. Unfortunately neither in Europe nor in the USA, since Canon opted to not commercialise the EOS M2 in this geographic areas.

Canon Japan (translated) also announced an EOS M2 double zoom kit that will be available in August. The kit comes with the [shoplink 6095]EF-M 18-55mm IS STM[/shoplink] and the new EF-M 55-200mm IS STM lenses. This kit will be available in Europe but not in the USA.
