We already knew that Canon is 100% focused on RF lenses from another interview back in October 2018. It got confirmed again in a recent interview with a Canon exec.
Canon is entirely set to build outstanding RF mount lenses and will slow down the production of EF mount lenses. In an interview with Digital Camera World, this was confirmed by Richard Shepherd, pro product marketing senior manager at Canon Europe:
As you know, last year we launched the RF mount and EOS R system […] To date we’ve launched ten critically acclaimed lenses, and as it’s a new system we plan to continue this, launching more RF lenses while still fully supporting the EF lens system. And of course, should the market demand it, we are ready to create new EF lenses. But for now, our focus is on RF.
While this will most likely not mean the immediate dead of the 33 years old EF mount system, it’s never the less a significant statement. Canon is committed to their EOS R full frame mirrorless system, and this interview is another confirmation. Also, is there anything left to realise in the EF mount format? I mean, is there a lens that doesn’t exist in Canon’s lineup?
I’m a bit puzzled by the “should the market demand it” statement. This, in marketing slang, usually means something is already dead and ready to get buried. But we are talking about Canon here, a slow paced and conservative company, so don’t expect the EF mount system to disappear anytime soon.
Canon’s EF lens production has not yet been discontinued.

Canon will most likely announce a new lens for the EOS R full frame mirrorless system, the RF 70-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS.
A Canon patent application for such a lens can be found in a Japanese patent application database. There are no hints about the announcement date, just that it will happen in 2020. The source says the size of the rumored RF 70-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS will be more or less the same as the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS
Seems to be a nice addition to the EOS R lens lineup, and will be a budget oriented lens (I totally missed the “L”), which I’m sure will make happy a lot of people.

As already announced by Canon, here is the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS firmware update to fix an autofocus issue.
Some users experienced front-focusing issues when focusing on a subject close to the minimum focusing distance at the telephoto end. Well, Canon reacted quickly to user complaints and here is the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS firmware update. You can download it from Canon Europe.
Firmware Version 1.0.6 incorporates the following fix:
Fixed a phenomenon when performing AF shooting to capture a subject at close-range with the focus distance approximately set to the Tele-end (200mm), the image may become slightly front-focused.
This firmware update is for lenses equipped with firmware versions 1.0.5 or earlier. If the lens’s firmware is already version 1.0.6, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
The version of the lens’s firmware can be checked in the camera menu.

Image Connect Image Connect is a new photographer matching service, offered through the RAISE photo community platform, that connects customers with professional photographers, so that the customer can focus on the moment while the photographer captures it. The beta version of the service will be available in a limited number of markets in Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Image Connect will initially focus on family events like newborn portraits, birthday parties, family portraits, religious events, and engagements.
Here is how Image Connect will work:
Through the platform, customers can provide basic details for the job, such as event type, location, and date
Once photographers are matched with the customer through the platform, customers review photographer profiles and invite those they like to bid on the job
Photographers create an offer which allows them to set their own price (rather than adhering to standardized pricing) and allows them to communicate their rates and value to customers
Once an offer is accepted, the job is booked through the platform
Following the event, images are delivered electronically to the customers through a Canon customer portal
This service will also be brand agnostic, opening up the portal for all photographers to use no matter the brand of equipment.
Photo Culling Plug-in Powered by the Canon Computer Vision AI engine, the new Photo Culling Plugin for Adobe Lightroom Classic can save photographers countless hours in post-production by using technical models to cull for image sharpness, noise, exposure, contrast, closed eyes, and red eyes. Analyzed images will be flagged with different colored flags to remain true to the native Adobe Lightroom Classic experience*. The photographer also has the ability to customize the settings within each technical model to remain in complete control. The Photo Culling plug-in will be available exclusively on the Adobe Exchange App Marketplace for a monthly subscription.
Both services are currently scheduled to be available in Q1 2020.
