Canon Rebel SL2 eventually coming for CES 2016? [CW3]

Thanks for the tip! Where is the Canon Rebel SL2? Expected in Fall 2015, the replacement for the [shoplink 11240]world’s smallest DSLR[/shoplink] is still on the run. Latest suggestion I got say Canon will announce the Rebel SL2 at CES 2016. That’s plausible. The Rebel SL2 is a consumer product, CES may be the right spot to announce it.

This is the second hint I get about a possible Rebel SL2 announcement in January 2016. There is no doubt that there will be a Rebel SL2. The question is: why is Canon delaying the announcement?

Will we see other Canon gear at CES 2016? Unlikely. Some sites report that a possible replacement for the Canon [shoplink 14246]EOS 70D[/shoplink] may be announced at CES. I do not think this is likely. CES will also not be the stage where Canon might announce the EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS-1D X Mark II.

For the time being, these are the Rebel SL2 specs I got:

  • 24MP, same sensor as T6i/T6s
  • Smaller than SL1
  • Wireless battery charging, old charger still supplied and works as before
  • 19 point AF system
  • Hybrid CMOS AF III
  • Digic 6
  • New battery type

Canon EOS 5D Mark IV tidbits, previous suggestions surface again

New tidbits about the upcoming Canon EOS 5D Mark IV surfaced on the web. Suggestions we got in the past got another mention.

The EOS 5D Mark IV may have more than 24MP (in the past I got rumors suggesting 28MP). Another split in the EOS 5D line is also rumored (we got such a suggestion back in April 2015). Might the EOS 5Ds and EOS 5Ds R have been a test of such a split of the line-up?

The possibility that the EOS 5D Mark IV might not get announced as such (as a direct replacement for the EOS 5D Mark III) has been rumored for a while. Rumors have gone wild on this. Basically, it’s suggested Canon may replace the EOS 5D Mark III with two different models: a low resolution option with better ISO performance, and with an option that has a higher resolution sensor (28MP) and being more a “classic” replacement for the [shoplink 2431]EOS 5D Mark III[/shoplink].

All in all, unfortunately nothing new on the EOS 5D Mark IV rumours-front. What about 4K on the EOS 5D Mark IV? 4K has been rumored for a while to be featured on the EOS 5D Mark IV. Now it is rumored to be featured on the EOS-1D X Mark II. For the time being I do not have any reliable info about this.

A list of specifications for the upcoming Canon EOS-1D X Mark II surfaced on the web, and it’s a list that could get it right.

The EOS-1D X Mark II might have the following specs:

  • 24mp full frame Canon sensor
  • 80+ AF Points
  • New processor technology
  • 14+ stops of dynamic range
  • Nearly 15fps
  • 4K video (max frame rate unknown)
  • Dual CFast
  • Slightly larger LCD

The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III may come next year, latest rumor suggests. The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III announcement is rumored to go along with the announcement of a new Canon professional full-frame DSLR, the EOS-1D X Mark II or EOS 5D Mark IV are candidates. So far, the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II replacement is rumored to have the following features:

  • slightly longer
  • bit heavier
  • 82mm filter
  • improvements on weather-sealing and optics
  • new lens hood
  • likely no image stabilisation

I got a hint (thanks) that the Canon Rebel SL2 may be announced in January 2016. CES 2016 is happening in January 2016, so it makes some sense.

Most of us were expecting the Rebel SL2 to be announced in Fall 2015, But it didn’t happen. The replacement for the [shoplink 11240]Rebel SL1[/shoplink] is long overdue, a January 2016 announcement is likely.

No specs so far, at least not from sources I can really trust. However, sorting out all the hints, I put together a list of specs that are at least plausible.

  • 24MP, same sensor as T6i/T6s
  • Smaller than SL1
  • Wireless battery charging, old charger still supplied and works as before
  • 19 point AF system
  • Hybrid CMOS AF III
  • Digic 6
  • New battery type

Update (11/16/15): Some rumor sites are claiming the Canon EOS 80D may be announced in January 2016. This is bs, a fake rumor! There will be no EOS 80D announcement in January. The EOS 80D will most likely be announced in Summer 2016.

I got a new hint for the upcoming EOS 80D (expected Summer 2016). The EOS 80D’s shape will be barely indistinguishable from the [shoplink 14246]EOS 70D[/shoplink]. The previously rumored 28MP sensor was mentioned again. Needless to say, Dual Pixel AF will be on board. I also got hints about new video modes. I am investigating (no 4K to expect).

The source also stated that early beta units of the EOS 80D are undergoing first tests. If the the supposed announcement date of Summer 2016 is to believe, then it’s plausible Canon may start beta-testing the EOS 80D now.

I am trying to get a picture of the EOS 80D AF system but will retain the suggestions I got until I get a better picture. The 80D’s AF  will likely be more evolved than the AF on the 70D but for sure not the  same as on the upcoming EOS-1D X Mark II. I am working to sort out rumors sent by people trying to give a hint from those coming from people trying to spam my inbox.
