Canon Rumor: New Pro “1” Series DSLR Could Be Announced Before Summer 2014

A new rumour concerning the next top pro “1” series Canon DSLR. We are talking about a still camera this time.

NL had word that a new top 1-series body could be announced in Q2 of 2014. A price reduction of the [shoplink 4119]EOS-1D X[/shoplink] before the announcement of the new body can be expected. The new DSLR most probably will not ship before end of 2014.

No specs unfortunately.

Eventually A Canon Announcement in November? (EOS M2 Rumor)

EOS M2 Rumor

Most recent rumours suggest that Canon won’t announce anything EOS-related during the last months of 2013, at least not for the DSLR line-up. However, something may be in preparation. The EOS M2 is rumoured as a candidate for an announcement.

CR reports that “a major retailer” is going to show off new gear, the presentation appears to be scheduled for the third week of November, and Canon seems to be involved. The suspect of the case is the successor of the Canon EOS M, for the time being usually named EOS M2.

An announcement of the EOS M2 so short before X-Mas appears not to be the best marketing strategy, unless Canon can ship from day one and starts a phenomenal marketing campaign to get ready for the X-Mas sales.

The Canon EOS 7D Mark II May Be Announced in March 2014

EOS 7D Mark II

Fake EOS 7D Mark II (mock-up)

We got a first candidate date (thanks) for the announcement of the Canon EOS 7D Mark II, and some specs confirmation too. According to our source Canon is set to announce the successor of the EOS 7D in March 2014. We didn’t get an exact date, but according to our source it should happen somewhen in the mid of March.

No concrete news about the specs. Rumors still suggest Canon is prototyping two different sensor (though both will have Dual Pixel AF), a 20MP and a 24MP sensor. Which one will do it into the 7D Mark II is still uncertain. However, all rumours suggest the 7D Mark II will not have the same sensor as the Canon EOS 70D. That looks a bit weird to me. If the 7D Mark II gets a 20MP sensor I can hardly figure out why and how it should be a different sensor than the one featured on the 70D. Maybe different aliasing filters or other very small differences in the engineering of the sensor.

For the time being the following sill is the most credited specification list:

  • ~20MP or ~24MP sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF
  • Auto-Focus system similar to the EOS 5D Mark III (61 points), possibly the same as 5D3
  • High frame rate, 10-12 fps
  • “high grade” weather sealing, like Canon’s professional DSLRs
  • Dual Digic V+ processor
  • Single card slot
  • WiFi & GPS
  • Innovative video features
  • Price around $2000
  • Very good ISO performance

That’s all for now. Have a great day.

Possible Image of the EF 100-400mm II Leaked

Hard to say if it is the real thing. It doesn’t look like any other Canon lens. The image showed up on Peter Norvig’s G+ profile. He writes:

For Canon fans, you might find this exciting.  A photographer was using this lens. I assert that the black stripes of the focus and zoom rings are the wrong width and placement to be either the 70-200 or the 100-400; therefore I speculate this is a prototype of the long-rumored 100-400 II.

Any ideas…?
