Yet another mention of a 50mm equivalent lens for Canon EOS M system

Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 STM EF-M 22mm canon lenses

Another mention of a 50mm equivalent lens for Canon’s EOS M system emerged from the interweb of rumor outlets, and it’s pretty similar to what we posted on February 6, 2018. It isn’t a new rumor either. We got similar tips in the past (here), and the last time we heard something about such a lens was one year ago.

However, we have always been told about a 35mm lens while the latest rumors suggests a 32mm lens. A 32mm lens on APS-C roughly resolves to 50mm on full frame sensor. The rumor is vague about the speed of the lens, it may be either f/1.8 or f/1.4.  So far there are no reliable specifications that are worth to be reported. Exactly as we have been told by one of our sources one week ago, the announcement is expected ahead of Photokina 2018 (starts in September 2018).

We think there is a good chance Canon will announce a 50mm equivalent, prime lens for EOS M this year. The EOS M lens ecosystem needs to broadened, and it needs good and inspiring lenses. It’s a shame that mirrorless system as powerful and well made as the EOS M system is, has to lack native lenses. Personally, I hope the rumored 50mm equivalent lens has f/1.4.

Stay tuned.

Canon EOS M50 to feature some sort of 4K video? [CW3]

Canon Rumors

A new Canon EOS M50 rumor surfaced. It’s suggested the EOS M50 may be the first Canon APS-C camera doing some sort of 4K video. There are absolutely no specifications so far concerning the EOS M50.

There have been some wild rumors about the EOS M50 in the last weeks, but this one eventually may turn out to be true. There is a lot of criticism hitting Canon for their conservative strategies, which are likely the reason the Japanese manufacturer has been so reluctant to feature 4K on consumer gear. We give this rumor a 50% chance to be true. And we will know soon. In the next weeks there will be leaks coming from Asian sites.

We expect Canon to announce the EOS M50, along with more gear, ahead of CP+, starting March 1, 2018. The next weeks are going to be hot, stay tuned!

Is a 35mm f/1.8 STM lens for EOS M coming ahead of Photokina 2018?

canon rumorscanon rumors

We have been told (thanks) that Canon may eventually announce the long rumored 35mm f/1.8 STM lens later this year.

We got similar tips in the past (here), and the last time we heard something about such a lens was one year ago. Last week this very rumor got new life. Now we got another hint. Not much to be honest.

Canon might announce an EF-M 35mm f/1.8 STM lens later in 2018, possibly ahead of Photokina 2018 (starting in September 2018).

While we are confident an EF-M 35mm f/1.8 STM lens may indeed be in the works, we are also getting a bit skeptical with rumors about this lens. Since this is a long running rumor, a bit of skepticism isn’t wrong.

It’s getting weird with the EF-M lens line-up. Canon made some powerful mirrorless cameras (and is about to announce the next one) but still fails to deliver outstanding native lenses. It’s true that on Canon MILCs with Dual Pixel AF you can use most of the EF and EF-S lenses. Never the less, having native lenses would make a huge difference.
