Entries Invited For 2014 Canon Female Photojournalist Award

Canon Female Photojournalist Award

Canon Professional Network press release:

Canon France, in association with Images-Evidence, has announced that the 14th annual Canon Female Photojournalist Award is open until 26 May 2014 for submissions from female photojournalists of any age and nationality.

This year, for the first time, the award is supported by Elle Magazine and Canon France will grant the winning female photojournalist €8,000 to help her to continue and complete a photojournalistic project on a social, economic, political or cultural subject.

A jury made up of top photography and press professionals will select the winner in June. Entrants will be judged both upon the presentation of their project and their previous work. Among the selection criteria are the quality of the photographs, the journalistic thought processes and relevance of the chosen subject.

The award will be presented to the winner during the Professional Week (1-7 September 2014) of the 2014 Visa pour l’Image international festival of photojournalism in Perpignan, France, and the winning photojournalist will then continue with a project which will lead to an exhibition or screening at the Visa pour l’Image festival in 2015.

Has The Canon EOS 7D Replacement Been Delayed To Q3 2014? (and EOS M3, 750D Tidbits)

EOS 7D Replacement
Fake EOS 7D Mark II (mock-up)

Another rumor in the long series of rumors about the replacement for the Canon EOS 7D.

Latest rumors were suggesting a possible announcement in Q2 2014. But a new rumor that surfaced on the web is suggesting we will see the successor of the EOS 7D [shoplink 337](price & specs)[/shoplink] not earlier than in Q3 2014. The rumor further suggests that the delay is due to manufacturing issues related to the Dual Pixel AF technology that is featured on Canon’s newest sensor generation. So the delay doesn’t only affect the successor of the 7D but, according to the rumor source, also the announcement of the successor of the EOS 700D [shoplink 11242](price & specs)[/shoplink], and the replacement for the EOS 100D [shoplink 11240](price & specs)[/shoplink].

The rumor suggests a “higher performance” version of the 70D’s sensor for the replacement of the EOS 7D. But was does “higher performance” mean? More megapixel? And then “cheaper versions” of the same sensor are said to be featured on the 700d and 100D replacements. Again, was does “cheaper version” mean?

The rumor sounds a bit weird to me. And my sources are still suggesting a Q2 announcement date for the 7D successor. That’s not to say it is sure we will see a 7D replacement announcement before summer. It appears as if Canon is doing everything right to keep their plans hidden. We can’t even be sure the replacement of the EOS 7D will be named EOS 7D Mark II. There have also been rumors stating that there will be no EOS 7D Mark II at all.

It appears that the reported rumor was passed to various European Canon dealers to let them know that there will be a delay (everyone out there?).

And then there is another rumor that surfaced, about two possible new EOS M [shoplink 6091](price & specs)[/shoplink] models to be announced for Photokina in September 2014. Again, it is suggested there will be an entry-level and a pro-level EOS M system camera, both appear to have the moniker “M3”.

Since the EOS M was released there have always been rumors suggesting a prosumer model in the EOS M series. Personally I think there is a lot of wishful thinking concerning a prosumer EOS M3.

Canon Master Guy Sebastian Captures Human Homelessness In Los Angeles

Canon Master Guy Sebastian walked through Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles to capture the humanity behind homelessness: Guy meets three of LA’s street people, and celebrates their character through three portrait photographs – their creativity, smile and majesty – regardless of whether they have a roof over their head.

Says Guy Sebastian:

I try to photograph humanity, powerful images that reflect the stories in people’s faces.

[…]

The toughest thing about these portraits is that I don’t want to illustrate doom and gloom, or someone that is down and out. I want someone to look at these faces and wonder — not judge. It’s important.

People like that make my day. Meeting people and hearing their stories, looking at their faces, a shot like that can show so much without having to ask. There is always that one picture you get excited about.

Guy Sebastian’s work was done for the #CanonShine photography movement to show to millions of people what matters through images:
