Canon Eos R5 Price

Update: the retailer changed the price to a AU$200 deposit, and added:

THIS IS JUST A WITHHOLDING DEPOSIT THAT’S FULLY REFUNDABLE. WE’LL CONTACT YOU ONCE WE HAVE FIRM PRICING

Still, AU$10,499 is a weird placeholder, isn’t it?

Original post:

An Australian camera retailer lists a Canon EOS R5 price that doesn’t seem at all to be a placeholder.

The Canon EOS R5 is listed at 10,499 Australian Dollars, which converts to approximate US$6254.

Too much? Not sure given the impressing features the Canon EOS R5 is packed with (all EOS R5 information is listed here), including 8K video.

An updated report about the EOS R5 specifications can be found here. Unfortunately it seems that the COVID-19 pandemic might delay release and shipment of the R5.

During Canon’s latest live-streamed announcement (you can watch it again here) Canon revealed a second teaser about the Canon EOS R5 after the development announcement and a subsequent reveal of more specifications. All R5 coverage is listed here.

After the last teaser, some EOS R5 hands-on and first impression videos have been published.

What do you think? This might be close to the real Canon EOS R5 price, isn’t it?

Stay tuned.

Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT Replacement Might Be Announced Soon, Report

Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT

Canon might soon announce a replacement for the Speedlite 600EX II-RT, a new rumor suggests.

Since the Speedlite 600EX II-RT saw a price drop in January, the possibility of a replacement was on the table. Apparently the replacement has been delayed along with both the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6, and should be announced together with the R5 and R6 in the next months.

While there are no rumored specifications, the source of the rumor states that the upcoming Speedlite will be a “big step forward”.

Stay safe, stay tuned.

Canon EOS R6 Announcement Postponed To July 2020?

Canon Eos R6 Rumor

A new Canon EOS R6 rumor surfaced, suggesting the announcement might be postponed to July 2020.

So far, despite rumors suggesting possible shipping delays, the announcement was expected for May 2020. But maybe that’s not the case. Latest rumor suggests July 2020 as announcement date. The source does not mention if this delay has to do with the COVID-19 pandemic, but we guess it has.

With the announcement getting delayed, the EOS R6 will not begin shipping before August or September 2020. Very unlikely earlier.

These are the rumored Canon EOS R6 specifications:

  • 20mp full-frame CMOS sensor
  • IBIS
  • 12fps mechanical and 20fps electronic.
  • 4K @ 60p
  • FullHD @ 120p
  • Dual card slots
  • No top-down screen
  • Lower resolution EVF than the EOS R5
  • Build quality not as good as the EOS R5
  • New battery (Not sure if it’s the same as the EOS R5)
  • July 2020 launch

These Could Be The EOS R Cameras To Be Announced In 2021

Eos R Canon Cameras

While we are still waiting for the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6, it’s nice to see some speculations on Canon’s 2021 EOS R cameras system roadmap.

A new rumor tries to shed some light on what kind of EOS R cameras we can expect to see in 2021. The source states that at least two cameras are in the pipelines and already have “internal names”. No specifications have been suggested.

Two new EOS R cameras in 2021, but what kind of EOS R cameras? Enter speculation room and let’s have a look to possible scenarios, ranked from less likely to most likely (in our opinion):

  • One of these two new R bodies might be the EOS R Mark II. However, it’s possible Canon will not release an EOS R Mark II and that the EOS R6 takes the place as replacement for the original EOS R.
  • One of these two new R bodies might be a EOS R1, i.e. a top tier EOS R body which also is rumored since long. But is there already room in 2021 for such a camera after the EOS R5 is released in 2020?
  • One of these two new R bodies might be the replacement for the EOS RP, already dubbed EOS R9 by the intertwined rumor mills network. So, a new entry-level EOS R body
  • One of these two new R bodies might be a high resolution EOS R model, maybe even a high megapixel version of the EOS R5. Canon did it with the EOS 5D lineup introducing the EOS 5Ds and EOS 5Ds R. So, it’s not only possible but the most reliable speculation.

We root for the last two, and think they are what Canon might release in 2021. What do you think?

Canon EOS R5 And EOS R6 Shipments Might Get Delayed (COVID-19 impact)

Canon Rumors Canon EOS R5c

The global COVID-19 impact might well delay shipments of both the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6. It was already murmured that it might happen (here and here).

First thing first, shipment of the EOS R5 and R6 will not begin earlier than July 2020, if not later. Next, and unfortunately, there are reasons to believe Canon will not be able to produce the number of cameras they planned and that means low quantities of both cameras to ship. At least for the next months. Consider that the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the production and supply chains of Canon and also of other manufacturers that Canon’s chains build on.

However, all rumors suggest the official announcement of the EOS R5 and EOS R6 will not be delayed and is still scheduled for May 2020.

As for the Canon EOS R5, 45MP resolution have indirectly been confirmed through the revealed specifications. Canon says the R5 will shoot DCI 8192 x 4320. That means the sensor has a width of 8192 pixels. Given the 3:2 ratio the height is 5461 pixels. All sums up to a 44.7MP sensor.

During Canon’s live-streamed announcement (you can watch it again here) Canon revealed the second teaser after the development announcement and a subsequent reveal of more specifications. All R5 coverage is listed here.
