Sigma Might Release Four Lenses For The Canon EOS R (tell us which one you’d like to see first)

Sigma Canon Eos R Art Prime Rf Mount

Good news for Canon EOS R fans.

In a few weeks Sigma will for the first time announce lenses designed specifically for the Sony Full Frame Mirrorless system. These:

  • 35mm f/1.2
  • 45mm f/2.8
  • 12-24mm f/2.8
  • 24-70mm f/2.8

That’s not the entire story. We have been told (thanks) that Sigma will release these lenses also natively for the Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless system. The source couldn’t tell a timeframe for the RF mount versions. All we know is that they will be released “sometimes later” (i.e. after the release of the Sony versions).

That’s really good news. Sigma makes outstanding lenses and releasing those lenses for the EOS R system will be a great contribution to its lens ecosystem.

Which lens would you like Sigma to release first for the Canon EOS R?

  • 12-24mm f/2.8 (36%, 163 Votes)
  • 35mm f/1.2 (31%, 142 Votes)
  • 24-70mm f/2.8 (26%, 117 Votes)
  • 45mm f/2.8 (7%, 32 Votes)

Canon EOS 5Ds vs Sony a7R III – Which One Is Sharper?

Sony A7R III

Youtube Mads Peter Iversen tested the Canon EOS 5Ds vs the Sony a7R III to test which camera produces sharper results.

He says:

In this video, I compare the sharpness between the 50 megapixels flagship Canon EOS 5Ds and the 42,4 megapixels Sony a7r3 (a7r III). As I own both cameras I was curious to see which came out on top in regard to sharpness. I was actually surprised by the result as there is next to nearly no difference! It is hard to conclude which is the best high megapixel camera. It is important to notice this is the Canon 5Ds, not the Canon 5Dsr (the 5Dsr is supposed to be sharper as it doesn’t have an anti-aliasing filter).

Canon’s APS-C Mirrorless Cameras Still Top Ranked In Japan

Mirrorless

The Canon EOS M50 and EOS M100 are best sellers in Japan, especially the former.

No surprise that latest BCNRetail data for May 2019 confirm once more that Canon is doing very good in the APS-C mirrorless market, and not just in Japan.

The EOS M50 has a market share of 20.5% (most sold), the Sony a6400 has 11.5% (second most sold), and the EOS M100 has 7.8% (third ranked).

Last 12 Month’s Japanese Camera Market: Canon Top Dog But It’s Fuji Who Wins

BCNRetail posted the Japanese camera market shares from April 2018 to March 2019.

  • Canon did hold 37.3% of the overall camera market shares (fixed lens plus system cameras)
  • Nikon did hold 26,7% of the overall camera market shares
  • Sony did hold 13,1% of the overall camera market shares
  • Olympus did hold 6% of the overall camera market shares
  • Fuji did hold 5.8% of the overall camera market shares

Canon is still the top dog in the bunch. But things look differently when compared to the previous year:

  • Canon sold -1,3% cameras (units of sales)
  • Nikon sold -15% cameras
  • Sony sold -6,6% cameras
  • Olympus sold -13,8% cameras
  • Fuji sold +19,4% cameras

And an even more different picture is given by the overall value of camera sales:

  • Canon camera sales value dropped -11,4%
  • Nikon camera sales value dropped -28,5%
  • Sony camera sales value increased +14,5%
  • Olympus camera sales value dropped -21,3%
  • Fuji camera sales value increased +0,6%

Canon, Nikon and Olympus saw a huge drop in overall value of the sales. Fuji on the other hand is doing pretty good, having been able to sell 19.4% more cameras than the previous year.
