Next Canon Rebels to be named EOS 770D and EOS 780D in Europe? [CW3]

Rebel T6i

Thanks. The next iteration of Canon’s popular Rebel series may be named EOS 770D and EOS 780D in Europe.

The current Rebel T6s and Rebel T6i are named EOS 760D and EOS 750D in Europe, respectively. The next Rebels, likely to be Rebel T7i and Rebel T7s in the US, should therefore get the monikers EOS 770D and EOS 780D in Europe.

Besides thinking it makes sense, I have no other hints about the reliability of the rumor. We expect the new Rebels to be announced soon, most likely in the next weeks.

Stay tuned.

These Canon products will be announced next [CW4]

Rebel T6i

A list of certification information for Canon products leaked at Nokishita Camera. Pretty safe to assume that these are the products Canon is set to announce soon, likely before CP+ in January.

Please note that the DSLRs listed at the top are the replacements for the Rebel T6s and Rebel T6i. The mirrorless camera is likely the one rumored a few days ago. The other items in the list are PowerShot cameras, of which the PowerShot G9 X Mark II was already expected.

A better 18-135mm IS STM lens coming for the EOS M system? [CW2]

Eos M5

We know Canon will release new lenses for the EOS M system in 2017. Rumor had it, there will be at least one prime lens to come (though two are rumored, a 35mm and a 50mm).

I got word (thanks) that Canon may announce an 18-135mm IS STM lens of “higher quality” than the available EF-M lenses. I interpret “higher quality” as referring to a lens with better optics and a constant and possibly fast aperture. Unfortunately, I have not received any specification for such a lens, and I didn’t spot any patent for an EF-M 18-135mm IS STM lens so far.

There is only one thing you can be sure about: there will be new lenses for the EOS M system in 2017, we just have no idea what lenses to expect.

Stay tuned…

A new entry-level Canon EOS M camera coming soon? [CW4]

Eos M

Hot times for Canon mirrorless rumors. A new murmuring surfaced, and we are here to report it.

Latest rumor has it that Canon will announce a new EOS M camera in February 2017, just before CP+. This new EOS M is said to be more entry-level than the EOS M5, with a form factor similar to the EOS M3. A new entry-level EOS M camera to be added to the line-up?

New Canon EOS M cameras and other kits will likely come in two variants, one with the EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM, and the other kit with the EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM.

What about new EF-M lenses? There will be new EF-M lenses in 2017, but we do not have reliable information at the time being.

There are more Canon cameras I expect to be announced ahead of CP+, PowerShot cameras and new Canon Rebel DSLRs.

Stay tuned…

More about the Canon EOS 6D Mark II rumor saying there will be a FF mirrorless instead (coming both?)

canon rumorscanon rumors

A few days ago I got a weird rumor, suggesting Canon may not release an EOS 6D Mark II, but instead launch a full-frame mirrorless camera.

I rated the rumor as CW3 for the plain reason that such a scenario is possible; maybe not likely but for sure possible. The EOS 6D Mark II is already late on schedule, and we know Canon is now seriously committed to mirrorless.

The rumor was picked up by big sites, still some people didn’t get the core message of the rumor (rumor, not report). The rumor did not suggest that there will be an EOS 6D Mark II with EVF or without mirror box. The source said there might be no EOS 6D Mark II and instead a full-frame MILC with EF mount. Well, it’s not as absurd as some people thinks.

Rumors are rumors, calling welcome rumors or rumors from long running sites as reliable, and weird ones or rumors coming from small sites as clickbait is just unfair, and entirely wrong. We all do the our best to deliver information. Most people doesn’t realise how long rumors are running on other sites. I saw a lens rumor going on for almost 10 years; was it clickbait?

Most comments on CW and mails I got, suggested that Canon might indeed release a FF MILC and the EOS 6D Mark II. In this scenario, the FF MILC could be an EOS 6D Mark II without all the tech needed for a DSLR, something like the EOS M5 vs the EOS 80D. I think this is could happen.

Back to the rating. A CW3 was appropriate. The rumor described a possible Canon strategy having a 50% likelihood to become real. There was no other intention. We report rumors when we get them, and these are always clearly tagged as rumors.

My personal take: a scenario where Canon will release the EOS 6D Mark II and, most likely some months later, a full-frame MILC, is what most likely could happen.

Stay tuned
