Yet another suggestion Canon might announce a full frame mirrorless camera before Photokina 2018

Canon Rumors Canon Full Frame Mirrorless

We wrote it for weeks if not months: Canon might announce a full frame mirrorless camera before Photokina 2018 (September).

Now others seem to have come to the same conclusion and are suggesting Canon might announce one of the (supposedly) two full frame mirrorless cameras they have on their agenda. It’s just 10 weeks to Photokina 2018, so, if an announcement in September 2018 is to expect, then very soon we will see serious leaks instead of speculations. The only thing sure so far is that Canon will announce at least one full frame mirrorless camera between now and Q1 2019. It’ sure it’s coming but no one knows when.

To get the point (and latest updates) about Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera have a look here.

Yet another set of specifications for Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera

Canon Rumors Canon Full Frame Mirrorless

A set of specifications for Canon’s upcoming full frame mirrorless camera(s) is making its rounds on the web. There are some educated speculations on previously rumored stuff and on recent leaks at Japanese site Nokishita.

According to Nokishita, Canon might have registered up to two full frame mirrorless cameras at wireless certification authorities. Of these, one, now universally named “the flagship”, according to certification data seems to have a 30MP sensor. This is the resolution of the sensor in the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. This led to assume Canon might feature the sensor of the 5D4 (or a close variation of it) on their highly anticipated full frame mirrorless camera. The 5D4 was released in August 2016. Canon’s flagship FF MILC is supposed to be released in mid 2019 (more below). And while the 5D4 is a powerhouse, that would mean Canon featuring a 3 years old sensor on what is rumored to be the company’s flagship MILC. Such a flagship Canon FF MILC is quite unlikely in our opinion.

The second Canon full frame mirrorless camera is sort of speculation. Nokishita reported two code names leaked through a certification authority (DS 126721 and K433). So far we can only suppose one of these is another Canon full frame mirrorless cameras. They might, though, but it’s speculation. However, the second, lower tier Canon FF MILC is rumored to sport a 24MP sensor. This too puzzles us a bit. After all the heat and the waiting, how can Canon releases a FF MILC with only 24MP in 2019? It’s a high resolution world.

Other bits concerning Canon’s FF MILC(s) that have been suggested are the possibility of a “removable EVF on one of the cameras” and a “sexy solution” for the mount. Concerning the latter, you likely know that there have been rumors Canon might feature the EF mount on their FF MILC instead of a new mount type. It’s still unclear what is going to happen. I guess “sexy solutions” are on everyones wish list. Despite the appeal of such a solution, most of us would prefer an EF mount.

Finally, the announcement. We did get contradicting hints and apparently so did others. If Canon is indeed working on two full frame mirrorless cameras, their announcement might not happen at the same time. An announcement in late 2018 is still a possibility, but so is a 2019 announcement. If a Canon full frame mirrorless camera is coming 2018 we should have first serious leaks very soon.

Off Brand: Nikon full frame mirrorless camera specifications surface

Nikon Z 6 Mark Iii Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Nikon Rumors

While we are waiting to learn more about Canon’s upcoming full frame mirrorless camera, we have some leaks about Nikon’s to discuss. May also give us a glimpse about what Canon has on their agenda.

Nikon Rumors reports these specifications:

  • Two mirrorless cameras: one with 24-25MP and one with 45MP (48MP is also a possibility).
  • Similar body size to the Sony a7 camera but with better ergonomics and a better grip.
  • 5-axis in-body stabilization
  • 9fps
  • New mirrorless mount.
  • The new mirrorless mount will allow for f/0.95 lenses
  • Memory cards: XQD and CF Express
  • EVF resolution: 3.6MP
  • Initially, three lenses will be announced: 24-70mm, 35mm and 50mm (the 35 and 50mm could be f/1.4). There is also talk about a 24mm, but it may come later.
  •  Pricing:
    • The 45MP model will be around $4,000/€4,000 in a kit with the 24-70mm lens.
    • The 25MP model will be under $3,000/€3,000 (also with a lens).
  • The official announcement is rumored for the end of July (on or around July 23rd) and shipping shortly after (August 23rd).

As you can see, a new mount type is rumored for Nikon as well as for Canon. We are a bit skeptical about an end of July announcement. Does Nikon want to be there before Canon? In such a scenario, we might think Canon will follow soon with the announcement of their full frame mirrorless camera.

Exciting times, more to come…

As you can see no specifications so far for the new lenses. However, we are sure among the list is the next Canon prime lens for the EOS M system, a 32-35mm lens with either f/1.8 or f/1.4. Let’s hope it’s the latter. The other lenses in the list may be “L” lenses and a new kit lens.

A new Canon 50mm lens out in the field, undergoing tests?

Ef 50mm F/1.8 STM Cyber Monday

A new “Canon 50mm” rumor surfaced over the web, saying Canon is actively field-testing a new 50mm lens. No other details are suggested at the time.

Let’s hope we’ll see an updated Canon 50mm lens soon. Besides the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, Canon hasn’t updated any 50mm lens since a lot of years.

We do not think we’ll see such a lens in 2018.
