canon rumors canon full frame mirrorless

We got some more bits about Canon’s agenda for Photokina 2018, along with the rumor about the Canon EOS M5 Mark II.

Canon might announce also two PowerShot cameras around September 2018.

  • A premium, travel oriented PowerShot SX740, featuring a 40x zoom, raw file format and GPS
  • The PowerShot G7X III, with a new 1″ sensor manufactured by Canon, Dual Pixel AF, 4K, and again GPS

We feel more confident about the Canon EOS M5 Mark II rumor than on this. Time will tell.

Stay tuned.

Canon Eos M5 Mark Ii

More tidbits about Canon’s mirrorless agenda.

We have been told (thanks) that Canon will soon announce the replacement for the Canon EOS M5, so far the companies most advanced mirrorless camera.

The Canon EOS M5 Mark II may feature a new generation sensor with a 24MP resolution, and finally 4K video with Dual Pixel Auto Focus. The EOS M5 Mark II may also sport a top LCD display. Other suggestions point to more advanced video features, better interface, and all the common updates you may expect.

The EOS M5 was announced in September 2016, so a replacement sounds likely.

So far I do not have reliable intel about the specifications, so take the with a grain of salt. However, exciting times are ahead. Stay tuned to grasp every bit we get about Canon’s mirrorless agenda.

You may ask: what about Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera? Well, it may not be announced for Photokina 2018 but for Photokina 2019, see here.

Canon set to announce a new MILC ahead of Photokina 2018 but it may not be a full frame mirrorless

Full Frame Mirrorless

We got a bunch of suggestions that Canon will announce a new, pro-oriented mirrorless camera ahead of Photokina 2018 (September), and it may be another APS-C camera.

Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera has not been put on ice. It will most likely be announced before Photokina 2019 (May). While rumors and rumor outlets have alternatively suggested a September 2018 and Q1 2019 announcement, we start to believe that Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera is indeed a 2019 affair.

While we have always been told by our sources that Canon will announce their full frame MILC ahead Photokina 2018, we have now reasons to think that Canon is set to announce two new MILCS within the next 8 or 9 months. The first one will be announced ahead of Photokina 2018, the second one ahead of Photokina 2019. The former will most likely be another APS-C body, the latter the long awaited full frame mirrorless camera.

For the time being we have no clues about specifications of both cameras. We expect the full frame mirrorless camera to have a sensor resolution around 36MP, the APS-C MILC may go around 28MP. For more tidbits check the four articles below.

Things are hard to get by since Canon started to secure their development plans from leaking. More to come…

A press text in Swedish leaked over at Nokishita, we provide a machine translation:

Canon upgrades the L Series’s popular EF 70-200mm lens

Canon upgrades two of its most popular and well-known L series lenses, and is now launching EF 70-200mm f / 4L IS II USM and EF 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS III USM. For many years, both models have been important instruments for professional photographers and photo enthusiasts. The two new lenses can be used for many different objects, from portrait to wildlife, and confirm the main role of the 70-200mm lens in the photographic equipment bag.

Michael Burnhill is a European Product Specialist for Consumer Imaging Group at Canon Europe, commenting on the launch of the two lenses: “Following the feedback from our global network of photographers, we are now proudly launching these two lenses. We always strive to deliver best quality products and performance to today’s visual storytellers. And to have a wide selection to meet the needs of photographers in the best possible way. EF 70-200mm f / 4L IS II USM represents the finest in the L-series optical technology. It has a compact size, is sturdy and lightweight. The EF 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS III USM lens is unbeatable in terms of performance, flexibility and durability. ”

EF 70-200mm f / 4L IS II USM builds on the predecessor’s high standard. There is the superior design, durability and ergonomic design that Canon’s wide lens range is known for. The lens weighs only 780 grams and is perfect for anyone on the move. The fluorine coating stumps away dirt and water drops on the front lens and the Super Spectra antireflex treatment eliminates reflexes and lightslings. The fluorite lenses available in the lens can correct color defects and ensure high resolution and contrast images. The amazing and reliable image quality is invaluable when it comes to reducing the time of post-processing.

The lens aperture f / 4 provides consistent exposure in many varying light conditions.

EF 70-200mm f / 4L IS II USM has a 9-leaf circular aperture that creates an attractive backdrop, makes the background blurred and enhances the subject itself. The new image stabilization device is based on Canon 100-100mm f / 4.5-5.6L IS II USM design. It delivers the equivalent effect as with a 5-step shorter shutter speed, compared to the previous 3-step lens *.

EF 70-200mm f / 4L IS II USM uses a combination of a ring-shaped ultrasonic engine and third generation technology with new high performance CPU and newly developed firmware for faster speed and accuracy and fast auto focus. The focus can also be adjusted manually and allows a 1m close-up to be compared to the predecessor’s 1.2m. All these features make the EF 70-200mm f / 4L IS II USM perfect for discreet and accurate shooting, something that is needed to street photography will be really good.

High Performance, Versatile and Sustainable – EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM

New EF 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS III USM makes the photographers experience even stronger. The lens was designed with high performance and durability in mind and fits photographers who want a high-quality telephoto lens that provides precise details. The lens sealing gaskets make it a sunny choice under challenging conditions. It is protected against moisture and dust and the front and rear lenses are protected by fluorine coatings and are easy to clean. The updates in EF 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS III USM in terms of durability mean that the lens is perfect for high quality travel displays.

The lens opens up a whole world of creative possibilities with its large 8-leaf circular aperture on f / 2.8. Now the photographer can raise sharp objects against silky, blurred backgrounds. With premium fluorite and UD glass, the EF 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS III USM delivers high contrast and excellent resolution. Photographers can feel completely confident in delivering that perfect image. Low light captures are also no problem, thanks to the lens’s maximum maximum aperture f / 2.8, which is constant throughout the zoom range and emits twice as much light as a f / 4 lens.

The 3.5-step image stabilizer compensates for blur caused by motion. An annular USM engine provides quiet auto focus at outstanding speeds, and manual adjustments can be made at any time by a simple twist on the focus ring. All these features make the EF 70-200mm f / 2.8L IS III USM an exceptional lens – for example, to perfectly and quietly capture animals in their natural environment.
