Canon EOS 7D Mark III announcement before Summer 2018, shipment from July/August [CW4]

Eos 7d Mark Iii

Eventually, a rumor from a source we know and trust.

The Canon EOS 7D Mark III will most likely be announced before Summer 2018. Shipment should be ready for July or August 2018 at most. An announcement before Summer 2018 makes sense: in April 2018 there is NAB, which would be a pretty good stage for Canon to display their new APS-C flagship. I rate the suggested announcement date CW4.

We still know very little about the Canon EOS 7D Mark III. While some specs flocked in here at Canon Watch, it’s still too early to consider them reliable.

Specification-wise we have this list, based on what we have been told so far, with some new bits (please note: I rate the specifications CW2)

  • New sensor technology and resolution around 28MP (we reported first)
  • 4K video (though no details, we reported first)
  • C-Log
  • More dynamic range than 7D2
  • Better ISO performance than 7D2
  • Tilt-able display with touch interface
  • New generation of Dual Pixel AF
  • More video oriented than 7D2
  • Higher feature set compared to 7D2
  • Same introductory price as 7D2

Some considerations: we can expect some of the specs above simply because we are talking about a new Canon camera. I mean, “more dynamic range”, “better ISO performance”, “tilt-able display” etc are just what to expect from the EOS 7D Mark III. Also “new sensor technology” isn’t really something that gets us exited: we heard this almost for every new Canon DSLR. That said, it must also be said that if there is one Canon DSLR for which it could be true that Canon is introducing a new sensor tech, it’s the company’s flagship, the upcoming EOS 7D Mark III. The EOS 7D Mark II played an important role in Canon’s marketing and product strategy. So will do the EOS 7D Mark III.

However, take all this with a grain of salt. While I am pretty confident about the announcement date, I consider the specifications to be not very reliable at this point. It’s too early for reliable specifications but some of the feature listed above are at least plausible. As usual, feel free to sound off in the comment section.

Canon EF 135mm f/2L IS to be announced first half of 2018? [CW2]

Canon EF 135mm F/2L IS

Canon may announce an image-stabilised (IS) version of the EF 135mm f/2L (price & specs), the Canon EF 135mm f/2L IS, a new rumor suggests.

The announcement is said to occur in the first half of 2018. CP+ 2018, happening in March 2018 is possible stage to display the EF 135mm f/2L IS.

Some time ago, two unreleased Canon lenses have been spotted at a certification authority. There is a chance one of these lenses is the EF 135mm f/2L IS, albeit it’s a very small one.

Canon EOS C300 Mark III undergoing tests in Japan and New Zealand (and a few new specs) [Cw2]

Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark III

A few days ago we were tipped that the Canon EOS C300 Mark III might be around the corner.

A few more bits get added. The source suggests the Canon EOS C300 Mark III is undergoing tests by select photographers in Japan and New Zealand. Adding the new bits to those we had, we get this list (new bits in emphasis):

  • new 6K sensor (though 4k video only
  • up to 120 fps in 4K, internal + external Raw
  • new developed on-sensor image stabilization
  • price tag above current C300 Mark II (will not be discontinued)
  • 4K internal
  • 6K raw
  • greater dynamic range than the EOS C300 Mark II
  • price over $20,000

I still rate it CW2 until I get some more intel. Stay tuned.

No Canon EOS 90D coming in 2018? [CW2]

Eos 90d

We got a Canon EOS 90D rumor (thanks).

Unfortunately, we did not get hints about the specifications. The source suggests Canon might not announce the replacement for the Canon EOS 80D in 2018. The Canon 90D will be a 2019 affair, apparently.

This contrasts with another early EOS 90D rumor, which surfaced back in July 2017 and was suggesting a 2018 announcement. However, I had a quick look at Wikipedia to check when the previous models of the EOS xxD series have been announced. Let’s have a look before going on.

  • Canon EOS 40D – August 2007
  • Canon EOS 50D – October 2008
  • Canon EOS 60D – August 2010
  • Canon EOS 70D – July 2013
  • Canon EOS 80D – February 2016

As you can see, intervals between an EOS xxD model and its replacement were getting longer with recent models. It was two year between the EOS 50D and the EOS 60D, and it’s three years since the EOS 60D, before the EOS 70D and EOS 80D were announced. A three years interval before we see the EOS 90D fits in this pattern. I rate it CW2 because it comes from a new source (albeit with good points).

We can only guess what the EOS 90D will have on board. We got hints for a 28MP sensor on the EOS 7D Mark III. Maybe the same sensor is going to be featured also on the EOS 90D.

Stay tuned.

A rumor from a new source (thanks), which reach also other places. It’s suggested Canon may soon announce the Canon EOS C300 Mark III, possibly before NAB 2018.

These specifications are rumored:

  • new 6K sensor (though 4k video only
  • up to 120 fps in 4K, internal + external Raw
  • new developed on-sensor image stabilization
  • price tag above current C300 Mark II (will not be discontinued)

Canon EOS 7D Mark III set to be announced in March 2018?

canon rumorscanon rumors

Latest rumor about the Canon EOS 7D Mark III has it that a March 2018 announcement is set for Canon’s next top APS-C DSLR.

A March 2018 announcement, though a bit early imo, is plausible. In April 2018 there is NAB show, which would be a nice stage to display the EOS 7D Mark III.

Moreover, the EOS 7D Mark III is said to feature 4K video (which we leaked first back in September). C-Log might also be on board.

Finally, what about sensor resolution? A few month ago we got word it ,may be a sensor with around 28MP resolution. The new rumor quotes a “first time sensor technology in a Canon DSLR”., which sound very much like a buzz word to me, and is something we hear very often when new Canon DSLRs are rumored. Each new Canon DSLR generation has in some way a new sensor technology.

What do you think, will we see the EOS 7D Mark III in March 2018?
