Canon’s Next Large Sensor Powershot Camera Appears In Official Videoclip

Large Sensor Powershot

Thanks Coen

We were already reporting that Canon will soon announce a new large sensor Powershot camera. This camera gets a mention by Canon itself in a videoclip on Canon Netherland’s website.

The video presents the Canon [shoplink 19768]PowerShot G1 X Mark II[/shoplink] and the new [shoplink 22665]Powershot G7 X[/shoplink], and a “big zoom” (groete zoom) camera presented as “later model” (i.e. to be announced soon).

There is also a short description of the upcoming model (machine translated):

Canon is committed to be in a compact housing to offer. Notch picture quality, and The new model in the Expert Compact range combines a large sensor and powerful zoom for superb pictures from afar.

You can register to be notified when the new camera will be available. To see the video go on Canon Netherland’s website (translated), and scroll down.

Two Canon Cameras With Multi-Layer Sensor Coming In 2015? (and high res sensor mentioned again)

Multi-Layer SensorCanon Rumor

After all the “Canon See Impossible” hype (followed by sarcasm), this rumor comes with perfect timing.

CR reports that they have been told Canon will announce two cameras with a Foveon-like sensor (based on multi-layer technology). The cameras are expected for Q1 2015.

One of these cameras should be the replacement for the [shoplink 4119]EOS-1D X[/shoplink], the other one another professional-level body with a high megapixel count (so the high res sensor rumor is live again).

Let’s hope there is something behind this rumor. At least there are some patents pointing in this direction (1 | 2). One more point: here at CW we got a very similar rumor just 4 days ago.

CR also claims that a Canon Explorer of Light told them “they’ve been promised a high megapixel camera to come sooner than later”
