Here are all the lenses Samyang officially announced today. And yes, they released the 35mm f/1.4 AE lens for Canon mount (spec sheet here) – Samyang’s first lens with electronic contacts for Canon (if I am not wrong).

The newest version of the lens that is marked with AE symbol comes with a microprocessor which can electronically confirm the focus value from the body level. The lens’s construction remained unchanged and still ensures a perfect optical and mechanical quality. Samyang 35mm f/1.4 has been designed to work with Canon digital reflex cameras equipped with full-frame and APS-C sensors.

Samyang Set To Announce a 35mm f/1.4 Lens With Auto-Exposure for Canon (and 7.5mm & 12mm Cine Lenses)

I have news about the announcement Samyang Optics will make on April 28th. I sum up DicaHub’s latest findings (translated).

We can safely assume Samyang will officially announce a 35mm f/1.4 lens with auto-exposure support for Canon mounts on April 28th. I think this is Samyang’s first foray into building lenses that electronically communicate with the camera body. You can see the lens in the video above.

To be more precise, in the video above (by aving on YouTube), shot at P&I Show in South Korea, Samyang introduces 3 new lenses. The above mentioned 35mm, a 7.5mm T/3.8 fish-eye lens for m43 systems, and a 12mm cine lens for mirrorless systems. If you listen carefully to the video, you can hear the Samyang rep saying “Canon M” when listing the mount types for the 12mm. Good news: there will soon be a 12mm Cine lens for the EOS M.

update: in the video the 12mm photo lens is shown, the 12mm Cine lens can be seen below (mounted on a Sony A7). However, the 12mm is real, and according to my information some people has already pre-ordered it.

There were rumors about a new auto-focusing Samyang lens line-up, and I was among those who were strongly hoping for that. Nope, as for now I have no reason to think there might be an announcement of an AF lens.

Samyang To Announce A 35mm Auto-Focus Lens For Canon On March 21st?

Samyang

source: DicaHub (translated)

After having teased new lenses set to be announced on March 21st on their European Facebok page, it seems that the lens (or lenses) Samyang is going to announce on 21st have electronic auto-focus built in. That Samyang could announce such a lens was rumored some time ago.

SLRclub reader Komabea spotted another bit of information on Samyang’s South Korea Facebook page, where a 35mm auto-focus lens is teased. The picture above says:

  • [Samyang is] studying cine zoom lens. There are no exact launching plan.
  • A Canon mount 35mm auto-focus lens is scheduled to be launched 1st half of 2014.
  • Mirror lens for DSLR is also scheduled to be launched 1st half~2nd half of 2014.

So, we learn that Samyang is working on Cine lenses, mirror lenses, and on a 35mm auto-focusing lens for Canon mount. Everything points to an announcement of a 35mm AF lens on March 21st, that’s my speculation. In any case there should be new Samyang lenses coming in Q1-Q2 2014. Stay tuned for more.

Samyang (or Bower or Rokinon or Walimex) lenses are well known for their excellent optical properties, but are all manual lenses. The same built quality and optical performance with AF would be welcome by a lot of people, especially if Samyang can mantain their competitive pricing.
