Nikon Execs Believe They Will Beat Sony and Canon and Become Nr. 1 in FF MILC Market

Canon

In an interview with DPReview dating back to Photokina, Nikon Execs made a bold statement.

When asked about aimed market shares, they said that they point to become the number one in the full frame MILC market.

Question: Do you have an internal target for percentage of sales represented by Nikon mirrorless versus DSLR?

We have internal sales targets for each model, but we cannot disclose the figures. Our goal is to become number one in the full-frame market for both mirrorless and DSLRs.

Question: What is your target timeframe for achieving this goal?

That’s a difficult question to answer – we cannot disclose the specific timeline, but we will make every effort to hit the target of being number one as soon as possible. We believe that we can achieve the number one position maybe quite soon. A lot of manufacturers have launched full-frame mirrorless cameras, but sales of our Z6 and Z7 are really robust, which gives us confidence.

Good luck Nikon. Beating Sony and Canon won’t be an easy task. And as long as we are concerned, we have no doubts Canon will dominate the market within a few years.

Nikon’s new Z mount technology and benefits explained by the engineer who designed it

Nikon Z6

Atsushi Suzuki, Nikon Optical Engineer and Technical Liaison, illustrates the structure and design of the new Nikon Z mount system. The Z mount is featured on Nikon’s brand new full frame mirrorless cameras, the Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7.

Canon is also rumored to introduce a new mount type on their upcoming full frame mirrorless cameras.

Upcoming Canon Full Frame Mirrorless Camera to be named Canon EOS R?

Canon Eos M50 Mark Ii

Things are heating up ahead of next week’s Canon announcement. For those who have been on a different planet for the last weeks: rumors have it that on September 4/5 Canon might announce (at least) one of the two full frame mirrorless cameras the company has on schedule. Please note that you may be very disappointed by next week’s announcement. More about that later or tomorrow.

After our very basic specification list for Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera, Canon Rumors got some more bits, the most interesting being the supposed moniker of Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera, and that Canon might introduce a new mount type.

  • Name: Canon EOS R
  • RF Mount (New mount, possible EF compatibility?)
  • No reports of new “RF” lenses being announced alongside the body.
  • Similar ergonomics to the EOS M50
  • Slightly larger body than the EOS M50
  • Will compete with the Sony A7 III & Nikon Z6
  • 24mp or 28mp (Two different reports)

All in all nothing that’s not at least plausible. A new mount type has been rumored many times. If this Canon full frame mirrorless camera is going to compete with the Nikon Z6, then it hardy will be a professional-oriented MILC. Is Canon still scared to cannibalise their DSLR market?

All Canon full frame mirrorless rumors are listed here.

Stay tuned.

Some New Canon Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Talk (28MP, $1900, IBIS)

Canon Rumors Canon Full Frame Mirrorless

We got a suggestion (thanks) for a basic specification set for Canon’s upcoming full frame mirrorless camera. Well, at least for one of the two that are rumored.

  • 28MP full frame sensor
  • Dual Pixel Auto Focus
  • IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation)
  • 10fps shooting
  • 4k@30fps
  • 1080p@60fps
  • Priced $1,900

All in all a specification set that’s at least reasonable, and to be expected.

It’s still not clear if we will see a Canon mirrorless announcement ahead of Photokina 2018. Many signs pointed in that direction but nothing new (and reliable enough) came up. An announcement ahead of Photokina could also be for the EOS M5 Mark II, and not for the highly anticipated FF MILC.

New Canon lens rumors also surfaced, there is a possibility Canon might announce new big white L lenses. And there is a list of unreleased Canon gear that has been registered at certification authorities, and that’s the only solid intel about Canon’s agenda that we have at the end of the day.

Stay tuned (all Canon rumors)
