New bits about Nikon’s upcoming mirrorless cameras.

Nikon Rumors reports the following:

  • The names of the two new Nikon full-frame cameras will be:
    • Nikon Z6: high speed, low light model (24MP)
    • Nikon Z7: high-resolution model (45MP)
  • The new Nikon mirrorless lenses could be called Z-Nikkor
  • There will be a Nikon Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 lens. This will be the fourth Z-mount lens and it will be announced after August 23rd
  • In the next official teaser or in the final press release, Nikon will greatly emphasize the inner diameter of the new mount
  • Nikon will concentrate on high-end prime lenses for their new mirrorless system
  • [NR] believe[s] on August 23rd we will get both the Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7 mirrorless cameras together with the 24-70mm f/4, 50mm f/1.8 and one more wide angle lens (24mm f/1.8 or 28mm f/1.8 or 35mm f/1.8)

There have been already two teaser by Nikon, and most of the specifications for the two mirrorless cameras have already leaked.

Nikon publishes new teaser for their full frame mirrorless camera (about the body)

Nikon released a third teaser video for the company’s upcoming full frame mirrorless camera. This teaser video is about the camera’s body. I’d say it looks pretty good.

Nikon says:

We’ve pursued the development of the ultimate camera for many years. Our new mirrorless system further embodies our spirit of manufacturing cameras without compromise.

And here is the new teaser video:

Nikon already officially announced the development of a full frame mirrorless camera, and will hold an announcement on August 23, 2018. A set of specifications also leaked.

We expect Canon to follow soon after Nikon. The latest hint we got suggests an important, mirrorless-related announcement on September 4/5, 2018. In the meantime, you may want to have look to the rumors about Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera.

Stay tuned!

Are these pictures of Nikon’s upcoming full frame mirrorless camera?

New images of what is rumored to be Nikon’s upcoming full frame mirrorless camera leaked on Nikon Eye. The images compare what is supposed to be the Nikon full frame mirrorless camera to Sony’s a7 III and Nikon’s D850.

At the time being it’s not really sure if the depicted MILC is Nikon’s FF MILC, but chances are good it’s the real stuff.

Canon Mirrorless Related Announcement on September 4/5, 2018?

canon rumors canon full frame mirrorless

We have been told (thanks) that Canon may stage a mirrorless-related announcement on September 4 or 5, 2018. This is partially in contrast with a previous rumor which stated that a major Canon announcement would happen in the second week of September 2018. Partially, because there might be different interpretations on what “second week” means, and some hints unfortunately get lost in translation.

At the time being we do not know if the announcement is about the replacement for the Canon EOS M5 (rumored to be the EOS M5 Mark II), or if it is about the so much emotionally anticipated Canon full frame mirrorless camera (all rumors).

As most of you likely know, Nikon has already stated very officially (and loud) that they will announce something evolutionary, and clearly based on a full frame mirrorless design. So, it’s just straight forward to expect the market leader, that’s Canon, to follow soon.

What do we know? Canon will announce new gear ahead of Photokina 2018, that’s sure. On top of the probability ranking you’ll find the EOS M5 Mark II, a 32-35mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 lens for the EOS M system, the Canon full frame mirrorless camera (at least one), and maybe some more gear (lenses?). Please note: at the time being it’s not sure if we will see Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera in 2018 or in Q1 2019.

We didn’t get any new intel about the EOS 90D/EOS 80D Mark II or the EOS 7D Mark III. An announcement in 2018 is still in the realm of possibilities but appears to become more unlikely as time goes by.

What to say? Stay tuned, because the next weeks will tell.

Is a “Mirrorless War” coming? Someone thinks so

full frame mirrorless

Kevin Raber of Luminous Landscape introduces us to a possible upcoming “mirrorless war”. Is it going to be Canon and Nikon against the rest of the world?

In his own words:

The Mirrorless War is here. In the coming months, things will get real interesting in the mirrorless camera market as Nikon and Canon throw their hats into the ring. Now every major manufacturer will have a mirrorless offering. It’s the camera of the future.

In his video, Kevin Raber discusses today’s situation of the market, and gives some predictions for the future.

Exciting times are ahead. Nikon already officially stated they are developing a full frame mirrorless camera, and that they will announce it to the world on August 23, 2018 (all Nikon full frame mirrorless rumors).

And Canon? Hard to say since Canon started to be very secretive about their agendas. All Canon full frame mirrorless rumors are listed here.
