More Mirrorless War Predictions (Fuji just a niche, Nikon underdog, Canon and Sony the big players)

Magic Lantern Mirrorless

Tony & Chelsea Northrup posted a 30min video where they analyse possible mirrorless market scenarios after Canon and Nikon will have released their upcoming full frame mirrorless cameras.

They say:

Nikon and Canon seem to be releasing full-frame cameras, and that changes EVERYTHING. Sony has had no competition for full frame mirrorless, can they survive a head-on fight against the two biggest camera makers? How will Panasonic, Olympus, and Fujifilm fare? And is Pentax even in the fight?

They are arguing that the battle will be between Sony and Canon, and they see Nikon as the underdog and Fuji occupying a niche (because Fuji has no full frame MILCs). For sure no other company has a technological advantage in the mirrorless field like Sony has. I’m a bit sceptical about Fuji occupying just a nice, since I believe their MILCs (and lens ecosystem) are state of the art. According to Northrups, Fujifilm will end up in the 4th place, after Sony, Canon and Nikon. Micro 4/3 as well as Pentax will disappear or count very little in the future.

Nikon Full Frame Mirrorless Camera to be Announced this Week, Latest Teaser Already About Experience

Nikon Full Frame Mirrorless

Nikon is set to announce their two full frame mirrorless cameras this week, on August 23, 2018. The upcoming Nikon FF MILCS are the Nikon Z6 (a high speed, low light model with a 24MP sensor), and the Nikon Z7 (a high-resolution model with 45MP).

The latest teaser (video below) is about photographers sharing their first impression after having used Nikon’s new mirrorless system. Most of the specifications for the two mirrorless cameras have already leaked.

Nikon’s Latest Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Teaser is About Lenses

Nikon Full Frame Mirrorless

Nikon posted the fourth teaser for their upcoming full frame mirrorless camera, and this time it’s about lenses.

The teaser suggests Nikon will release new, fast lenses under the company’s “NOCT” moniker.

In less than a week, on August 23, Nikon will (most likely) announce two full frame mirrorless cameras, the Nikon Z6 (a high speed, low light model with a 24MP sensor), and the Nikon Z7 (a high-resolution model with 45MP). The teaser video below is most likely pointing to the Nikon Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 lens, rumored to be announced after the two FF MILCs. The caption for the teaser video states

NIKKOR lenses have offered photographers ever more ways to express themselves. To pursue and control the essence of light is at the heart of this journey, from now into the next 100 years.

Specifications for Nikon’s full frame mirrorless cameras have already leaked.

Nikon’s upcoming Full Frame Mirrorless Cameras are named Nikon Z6 and Z7, four lenses to be announced too

Nikon publishes new teaser for their full frame mirrorless camera (about the body)

Full Frame Mirrorless Camera

Nikon released a third teaser video for the company’s upcoming full frame mirrorless camera. This teaser video is about the camera’s body. I’d say it looks pretty good.

Nikon says:

We’ve pursued the development of the ultimate camera for many years. Our new mirrorless system further embodies our spirit of manufacturing cameras without compromise.

And here is the new teaser video:

Nikon already officially announced the development of a full frame mirrorless camera, and will hold an announcement on August 23, 2018. A set of specifications also leaked.

We expect Canon to follow soon after Nikon. The latest hint we got suggests an important, mirrorless-related announcement on September 4/5, 2018. In the meantime, you may want to have look to the rumors about Canon’s full frame mirrorless camera.

Stay tuned!
