These registered Canon gear has not been announced yet (EOS 6D Mark II?)

canon rumorsEos 6d mark ii

There is still a list of Canon gear that was registered at certification authorities but has yet to be announced by Canon.

Please note: some sites are insisting the Canon EOS 6D Mark II is among the list. While this for sure captures the interest of the masses, it’s also good to be honest to say that there is no hint in the list pointing to the EOS 6D Mark II (which, btw, is late on schedule). The other Canon DSLR many want to spot in the list is the Canon EOS SL2, which I am sure will be announced soon.

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is becoming more mysterious month after month. First, there are some persistent rumors (1 | 2) that there will be no EOS 6D Mark II but a mirrorless full-frame camera instead, and second, no one had any reliable intel about the EOS 6D Mark II so far. This is a bit unusual even for a company dedicated to secrecy like Canon.

The list of Canon gear registered at certification authorities:

The next Canon DSLR is the Rebel SL2 (look on the specs) [CW4]

Rebel SL2

Where is the Canon Rebel SL2?

It’s a while we didn’t hear any news about the replacement for the Canon Rebel SL1 (which still is the world’s smallest DSLR). Unfortunately the rumor that came in is of the kind “there will be a SL2 in 2017”, and nothing more.

When will we see the Rebel SL2?

At least here we can give you some more intel. I know Canon will announce the Canon Rebel SL2 during Q2-Q3 2017, surely not before the new Canon EOS 800D/Rebel T7i and Canon EOS 77D have started shipping.

Will there be a new EF-S lens?

This is rumored since a while but didn’t get any confirmation nor hints so far. Canon announced a new kit lens along with the Canon Rebel T7i and Canon EOS 77D so we do not expect new standard zooms for Canon APS-C DSLRs. However, a new fast prime is always possible. We keep you posted.

What are the specifications of the Rebel SL2?

Nothing leaked so far but we can make some assumptions without risking to be wrong. The Rebel SL2 will almost for sure have a 24MP sensor, likely the same AF system of the Canon Rebel T7i, most likely WiFi will also be on board. Do not expect 4K, but solid HD video instead. I wouldn’t expect a frame rate higher than 4-5 fps. Since the DIGIC 7 made it on the Canon Rebel T7i I guess we can expect it on the Rebel SL2.

What specifications do you expect in the SL2? Sound off in the comment section.

Stay tuned…

Canon Rebel SL2 coming for CP+, announcement end of February? [CW3]

Rebel SL2

Is Canon set to announce the Rebel SL2 at the end of February, just in time for the CP+ show? I’ve been told that the Rebel SL2 may indeed be announced in a few weeks. We are not going to see the EOS 80D for CP+, as suggested by others, but most likely the Rebel SL2.

The Rebel SL2 is rumored to feature the same 24MP sensor as other recent Canon DSLRs (namely, the EOS 750D/Rebel T6i and EOS 760D/Rebel T6s). Beside being suggested by the source, a 24MP on the Rebel SL2 sounds pretty plausible to me. There have been few rumors about the Rebel SL2 as of late. The SL2 was expected to get announced in 2015, but nope. Will we eventually see the Rebel SL1 replacement at the end of February?

For the time being, these are the supposed Rebel SL2 specs I got and consider reliable:

  • 24MP, same sensor as T6i/T6s
  • Smaller than SL1
  • Wireless battery charging, old charger still supplied and works as before
  • 19 point AF system
  • Hybrid CMOS AF III
  • Digic 6
  • New battery type

All Rebel Sl2 rumors are here. Stay tuned…

Canon EOS-1D X Mark II and EOS 5D Mark IV tidbits (and where to get fresh and unsophisticated Canon rumors)

eos 5d mark iv
Canon EOS 5D Mark IV mockup by zol.com.cn

Do you want your Canon rumors fresh and as directly from the source as possible? We can help.

There are a few sites, mainly in Asia, that first post leaked and reliable info about Canon products. The sites are:

According to the first two sites listed above, Canon will release two more DSLRs along with the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II and the EOS 5D Mark IV (click here) in 2016. One of these will likely be the EOS 80D, the other, I guess, the long overdue Rebel SL2. The aforementioned, and usually pretty well informed sites, suggest the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II will be announced for CES 2016 (and be on display there), the EOS 5D Mark IV in February 2016. A 24MP sensor is rumored for the EOS-1D Mark II, while the EOS 5D Mark IV should have a 28MP sensor (as posted first here on Canon Watch). We also reported that there could be a model split for the EOS 5D Mark IV, this is also confirmed by the aforementioned sites.

According to information I got from the editors of these site, the codename for the EOS 5D Mark IV is “invincible Buddha“. The 5D Mark II was “magic rabbit” and the 5D Mark III was codenamed “invincible umbrella”. According to the people who contacted me, the EOS 5D Mark III saw a drastic price drop in Hong Kong, which usually is a sign that an announcement of a replacement isn’t far away.

I am following anything coming from these sites, and will try to stay in touch with the editors. Stay tuned, we will soon know more.

Canon Rebel SL2 eventually coming for CES 2016? [CW3]

canon rumorscanon rumors

Thanks for the tip! Where is the Canon Rebel SL2? Expected in Fall 2015, the replacement for the world’s smallest DSLR is still on the run. Latest suggestion I got say Canon will announce the Rebel SL2 at CES 2016. That’s plausible. The Rebel SL2 is a consumer product, CES may be the right spot to announce it.

This is the second hint I get about a possible Rebel SL2 announcement in January 2016. There is no doubt that there will be a Rebel SL2. The question is: why is Canon delaying the announcement?

Will we see other Canon gear at CES 2016? Unlikely. Some sites report that a possible replacement for the Canon EOS 70D may be announced at CES. I do not think this is likely. CES will also not be the stage where Canon might announce the EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS-1D X Mark II.

For the time being, these are the Rebel SL2 specs I got:

  • 24MP, same sensor as T6i/T6s
  • Smaller than SL1
  • Wireless battery charging, old charger still supplied and works as before
  • 19 point AF system
  • Hybrid CMOS AF III
  • Digic 6
  • New battery type

Canon Rebel SL2 to be announced January 2016? [CW3]

Rebel SL2

I got a hint (thanks) that the Canon Rebel SL2 may be announced in January 2016. CES 2016 is happening in January 2016, so it makes some sense.

Most of us were expecting the Rebel SL2 to be announced in Fall 2015, But it didn’t happen. The replacement for the Rebel SL1 is long overdue, a January 2016 announcement is likely.

No specs so far, at least not from sources I can really trust. However, sorting out all the hints, I put together a list of specs that are at least plausible.

  • 24MP, same sensor as T6i/T6s
  • Smaller than SL1
  • Wireless battery charging, old charger still supplied and works as before
  • 19 point AF system
  • Hybrid CMOS AF III
  • Digic 6
  • New battery type

There will be more soon, stay tuned…
