Here Is Canon’s Upcoming Lens Roadmap For The Canon EOS R System

A list of upcoming RF lenses leaked over the web. And it looks very interesting for the EOS R system.

Canon Rumors posted what with some likelihood could be Canon’s upcoming RF lenses roadmap. A lot of lenses that seem to confirm Canon dedication to the EOS R system.

We will most probably see this two lenses first:

  • Canon RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM – small size (like a Coke can), external zoom,
  • Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM – said to be optically better than the EF version and with a better build quality

Then, within 2021, these lense might get announced

  • Canon TS-R 14mm f/4L (a groundbreaking” autofocus tilt-shift lens)
  • Canon TS-R 24mm f/3.5L (another groundbreaking” autofocus tilt-shift lenses)
  • Canon RF 10-24mm f/4L USM
  • Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM
  • Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro
  • Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L USM
  • Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
  • Canon RF 135mm f/1.4L USM
  • Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-7.1 IS USM
  • Canon RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM
  • Canon RF 500mm f/4L IS USM
  • Canon RF 600mm f/4L IS USM
  • Canon RF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM
  • Canon RF 1200mm f/8L IS USM.

As you can see there is a lot of lenses coming to the EOS R full frame mirrorless system.

Canon Developed A New 21MP Sensor, Might It Be Featured On The EOS R1?

We got an interesting tip and want to share it with you. It’s a about a new image sensor developed by Canon and the possibility it will be featured on the EOS R1.

Our source told us (thanks) that Canon has developed a new image sensor with these specifications:

Just to be clear: the rumored sensor is not a 2/3″ sensor but it is based on a 2/3 inch sensor.

So, the question here is: might this sensor come with the Canon EOS R1? Maybe. The EOS R1 is said to be equivalent to the EOS-1D X lineup, and it is rumored to get released in 2021. Will a 21MP full frame sensor still be good enough for a sport-oriented, professional mirrorless camera in 2021? Let me know what you think.

Canon Might Release Two Versions Of The RF 35mm f/1.2L (one having Defocus Smoothing)

Not the first time the Canon RF 35mm f/1.2L lens is rumored. Now, it seems Canon might release two versions of it.

Canon might release a DS version (Defocus Smoothing) of the RF 35mm f/1.2L. They did the same with the RF 85mm f/1.2L, a truly amazing lens.

Both versions of the RF 35mm f/1.2L might get released in the first half of 2021. A patent describing the optical formulas for the RF 35m f/1.2L has been spotted in the past and it is quite likely it refers to the upcoming lens.

Canon EOS R1 And Two “big white” RF Telephoto Lenses Coming In 2021?

Here is a new EOS R rumor, and it’s about the Canon EOS R1 and new telephoto lenses for the RF mount.

The rumor suggests Canon will release two “big white” telephoto lenses along with the C Canon EOS R1 somewhere in Q2 2021. Please note that “R1” is a moniker created by the community, not an official Canon naming.

No idea so far if one the big white telephoto lenses is the rumored RF 500mm f/2.8L. A RF 300mm f/2.8L IS lens is also a possible candidate. In any case it fits into Canon’s strategy to gradually broaden the professional RF lenses lineup.

The EOS R1 is supposedly the EOS R camera equivalent to the EOS-1D X lineup. Honestly, we have some doubts Canon might release such a camera in 2021 but everything is possible. It’s a while it’s rumored, and we are sure it is coming.

We know Canon is set to announce the Canon EOS M50 Mark II soon. A set of specifications surfaced.

Canon Rumors posted a list of possible Canon EOS M50 Mark II specifications:

  • 32.5mp APS-C CMOS sensor
  • DIGIC X (maybe a new version)
  • DPAF II
  • 14fps
  • 4K @ 60p no crop
  • No IBIS
  • Similar EVF resolution as the EOS R6
  • Single SD card slot

Plausible specifications for the replacement of the highly popular EOS M50, a best seller.

The Canon EOS M50 Mark II Might Get Announced Very Soon

It seems it might be a matter of a few weeks until the Canon EOS M50 Mark II is going to be released.

That’s how we interpret a tweet by Nokishita, stating

Canon’s latest product list includes the EOS M50 II, speedlight EL-1, and speedlight accessories SPF-EL, SBA-EL, and LP-EL

Since it never happened that Nokishita made such a tweet without the announcement following soon after, we guess it applies here too. The Canon EOS M50 Mark II might be just a few weeks away.

There is no doubt that Canon will replace the highly popular EOS M50, a best seller especially in Japan. Indeed, the EOS M50 is Canon’s best selling mirrorless camera to date.
