Two Canon Cameras With Multi-Layer Sensor Coming In 2015? (and high res sensor mentioned again)

Multi-Layer SensorCanon Rumor

After all the “Canon See Impossible” hype (followed by sarcasm), this rumor comes with perfect timing.

CR reports that they have been told Canon will announce two cameras with a Foveon-like sensor (based on multi-layer technology). The cameras are expected for Q1 2015.

One of these cameras should be the replacement for the [shoplink 4119]EOS-1D X[/shoplink], the other one another professional-level body with a high megapixel count (so the high res sensor rumor is live again).

Let’s hope there is something behind this rumor. At least there are some patents pointing in this direction (1 | 2). One more point: here at CW we got a very similar rumor just 4 days ago.

CR also claims that a Canon Explorer of Light told them “they’ve been promised a high megapixel camera to come sooner than later

Powershot G7 X Real World Sample Pictures

Dpreview posted a set of real world sample pictures shot with Canon’s new Powershot G7 X.

To see all the coverage of the G7 X on CW click here. The G7 X features an 1 inch sensor, which most probably is the same sensor found on Sony’s RX100s.

The Powershot G7 X is already available for shipping at DigitalRev for €629/$699 (I think it is still the only reputable online seller shipping the G7 X). For customers in Europe and Asia the price is comprehensive of shipment and all taxes/customs, US customers have to check it since taxes and duties depend by the state you are living in. The Euro-price above is for Germany, it may be slightly different for other EU countries.

More, world-wide pre-order links after the break.
