Are These The Canon EOS RP Specifications? [CW2]

A list of specifications for the upcoming Canon EOS RP full frame mirrorless camera emerged from the web.

We expect Canon to make a major mirrorless related announcement on February 14, 2019. Five upcoming RF lenses have already leaked.

We know (now) that the EOS RP will be an entry level model in the EOS R line-up, these are the suggested specifications:

  • Camera weight is 400g, the lightest full-frame mirrorless camera ever
  • A side-articulated monitor and a comfortable grip
  • A new 24MP CMOS sensor. Expect the performance similar to EOS R
  • No Touch Bar and top monitor but an extra dial
  • 5FPS
  • Standard ISO 100-40000
  • Eye AF now supports Servo AF and Video AF
  • Dual Pixel AF speed is 0.05 sec.
  • USB-C and headphone jack are available. Battery charging while shooting issupported
  • Canon Log, HDMI clean output, and 1.56x 4K crop
  • Price is about $1300USD for body (We’re really hoping it’s priced this aggressively)

Take this with a grain of salt. It looks legit but we have no confirmation. Some of the stuff above looks to good for an entry level full frame mirrorless camera made by Canon. Our information about the price differs, we have been told the EOS RP will sell at $1,600.

Stay tuned…

As you can see, there are some hot pieces of glass among them. Anyone still doubting Canon is taking their EOS R system seriously?

Canon RF 24-105mm F/4L IS Review (D. Abbott)

Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS Review Canon EOS R

Photographer Dustin Abbott posted his final verdict on what is the kit lens for the EOS R system, the Canon RF 24-105mm F/4L IS.

From Abbott’s conclusion:

I don’t get overly excited about lenses with a maximum aperture of only F4, but there’s no question that this is a very useful lens.  You can do about 80% of your photography (or maybe 100%, depending on your needs) without the Canon RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM ever leaving your camera.

I would recommend a good telephoto lens and perhaps a wide aperture prime lens to compliment this lens.  At the time of this review, the only camera that it can be used on is the Canon EOS R, but that will undoubtedly change as Canon introduces more cameras supporting the RF mount moving into the future.  I noted in my EOS R review that the EOS R (at present) seems to be more a delivery system for the excellent new lenses that the RF mount has unlocked.  The RF 24-105L is a great place to start in building your new lens kit, though, as it manages to avoid many of the common pitfalls from such lenses and delivers above-average image quality and truly excellent autofocus performance.

Dustin Abbott’s review comes with a huge set of sample photos and all kinds of insights. If you prefer, you can watch his review in the video below.

Canon’s Next EOS R Model Is Entry Level, Costs $1600, And Has One Card Slot, Announcement Feb 14

canon eos r firmware update

Canon’s next full frame mirrorless camera will most probably not be a high resolution model as we wrote. It will be a competitively priced entry level model.

A good source told us it will sell at $1,600, and have one card slot, which is to expect at this price. The moniker EOS RP is most likely.

So far we do not have more specifications to share but I’m sure more information will show up soon.

Stay tuned.

Fired From Canon Because Not Having Enough Instagram Followers? Not True, Let’s Have A Closer Look

instagram followers

Days ago a catching title was thrown into the photography community.

The news came from a major outlet, claiming a photographer was fired from Canon because she didn’t have enough Instagram followers (less than 50k).

According to the news outlet, the lady photographer said:

Let’s talk about followers and followers mattering. I’ll tell you that I booked a huge job — it would have been the biggest job of my career, commercially. I’ll just say it: with Canon. To shoot an ad campaign for them. I got the job, it was amazing. And then literally 20 minutes later, after I had already started making calls to start booking a crew because it was coming real fast, they called me and said, “Oh my God, we can’t hire you.”

And I said, “Why?”

And they said, “Because you don’t have 50,000 followers on Instagram.”

Well, it turns out there is nothing true in this story, as The Art of Photography meticulously researched and explains in the video below.

Well, this tells a long story that should make us think. Not just about photographers telling fairy tales but also about how fast those fairy tales (aka fake news) spread onto the Internet.
