Two New Canon EOS R Cameras Coming in 2019 (entry-level and professional)?

Canon Eos R

Is Canon set to announce two Canon EOS R cameras in 2019? It’s likely.

We already reported a rumor we got, stating Canon will announce a high resolution EOS R camera, i.e. a EOS R body with a sensor resolution around 50MP. This rumor was indirectly confirmed by a Canon exec in an interview.

The rumor that surfaced a few days ago differs somewhat from what we have been told. It’s suggested Canon will announce a more entry-level oriented EOS R camera, positioned below the actual Canon EOS R, and then a more professional EOS R body that’s close to the EOS-1D X Mark II. The former should be announced first, the latter will be build for speed and video. However, the more “professional” EOS R might also be the high resolution model we told you about.

Rumors about Canon’s plans with the EOS R lineup abound on the web, This rumor comes from the more reliable spots on the Internet. We think there is high probability it’s going to happen. Both an entry-level and a professional EOS R body are also what we expect Canon to deliver in the next year(s).

The Canon EOS 7D Mark II Shows Up As Discontinued at B&H Photo (EOS 7D Mark III Rumor)

Canon Eos 7d Mark Iii

Thanks Peter.

Not that we didn’t know Canon will announce the Canon EOS 7D Mark III soon.

B&H Photo lists the Canon EOS 7D Mark II body only option as discontinued. First signs were already visible in April 2018.

Yes, it is a sign the Canon EOS 7D Mark III is coming (all rumors). The next announcement date candidate is ahead of Photokina 2019 (in May 2019), so it would be Q1 2019. We give it a 50% reliability at the time of writing. So far very little has leaked about the EOS 7D Mark III. All we know comes from leaked data from wireless certification authorities.

I wonder if the Canon EOS 7D Mark III will eventually have a tiltable display. There will also be an obvious increase in sensor resolution. What else can we expect?

Stay tuned, there is more to come…

The Next Canon EOS R Will Be A High Resolution Model

Canon Eos R Firmware

We have been told that the next Canon EOS R system camera to be announced will sport a high resolution sensor.

This makes sense. Nikon announced two full frame mirrorless cameras, the Z6 and Z7. The Nikon Z7 is the high resolution model, featuring a 45MP sensor. It’s to expect Canon will follow the same path. The Canon EOS R has a 30MP sensor (the Nikon Z6 has 24,5MP).

A Canon EOS R model with a sensor around 50MP has to be considered plausible..

This rumor doesn’t come entirely as a surprise. A more pro-oriented EOS R model is rumored since a while, and it seems just straight that Canon might feature a sensor with a resolution similar to the EOS 5Ds. In this way Canon could replicate their highly successful EOS 5D line-up with mirrorless technology. Moreover, all the Canon RF lenses appear to have been build with a 50MP sensor in mind.

It’s still unclear when the next Canon EOS R is going to be announced. Ahead of Photokina 2019 (May 2019) seems to be a good candidate announcement.

Stay tuned, there is more to come.

There will be no Canon EOS R with an APS-C sensor

Canon Eos R Price

I don’t know who originated this rumor but unfortunately it’s making its rounds on the web.

It’s suggested that Canon might have an EOS R model with APS-C sensor on their agenda. This is utterly and outmost something that will not happen. We got this confirmed from our sources.

Canon’s mirrorless line-up with APS-C sensor is the EOS M system. Although you may object that there are still few lenses (but a new EF-M 32mm f/1.4 has just been announced), this is the mirrorless system Canon designed for APS-C sensors and it is the system Canon will invest into and expand in the years to come. The replacements for the Canon EOS M5 and the EOS M6 are expected to be announced next year.

Unfortunately anything related to the Canon EOS R gets you a lot of traffic and so it comes that such rumors get born and spread. Unfortunately, this rumor will not disappear easily or anytime soon.

Stay tuned.
