Did Canon Ditch The EOS 5Ds Mark II In Favour Of A Mirrorless Option?

EOS 5DS Mark Ii

Latest murmuring on the web has it that Canon might have abandoned the development of a DSLR in favour of a mirrorless option.

The source of the rumor suggest that Canon ditched the replacement for the EOS 5Ds (R) in favour of a mirrorless option. This fits well with a rumor we got some weeks ago suggesting that the next EOS R model will feature a high resolution sensor in the range of the EOS 5Ds. A hint in this direction was also given by a Canon exec during an interview. It’s indeed very likely that Canon will release a high resolution full frame mirrorless camera instead of a DSLR.

For the time being the rumor mill is going a bit astray, struggling to get news. A lot of what we can expect 2019 has already been disclosed in interviews given by Canon execs. Even the future RF mount lenses roadmap has been disclosed early, which is unusual for Canon.

Stay tuned.

Unreleased Canon Gear Leakes Through Certification Authority (EOS 80D and EOS 5Ds replacements?)

Ibis Canon Rumors Canon Full Frame Mirrorless Canon PowerShot G7 X Canon Eos 90d Coronavirus

Nokishita posted a new list of camera codes used in certification authorities.

Note that both DS126751 and DS126761 are either DSLRs or full frame mirrorless cameras. One might be the replacement for the EOS 5Ds(R) or the rumored high resolution EOS R model. It’s suggested that both models have a full frame sensor, either in a DSLR or a MILC. However, DS126761 seems to refer to a more entry level oriented camera and thus may well point to the Canon EOS 80D or Rebel SL2 replacements (maybe something got lost in translation?). Both are expected to be announced in the first half of 2019. P2355 refers to a PowerShot camera and might be the PowerShot G7X Mark III. No signs of the EOS 7D Mark III here.

Canon EOS C300 Mark III To Be Announced in 2019, Might Have 8K Video

Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark III

We got a rumor about the Canon C300 Mark III from a new source.

It’s suggested that Canon will release the EOS C300 Mark III in late 2019. The initial release will feature 4K video. A paid upgrade to 8K will be made available later, apparently to keep the initial price competitive. The EOS C300 Mark III will have a 4.4.4 codec and electronic image stabilisation. It’s also suggested that the EOS C300 Mark III is already undergoing field testing.

Canon EOS R With APS-C Sensor Rumor Surfaces Again (tell us what you think)

Canon Eos R Mark Ii Rumor

Since the launch of the Canon EOS R there was a weird rumor that was immediately pushed by some sites. An EOS R model with APS-C sensor.

It’s suggested again Canon might announce an EOS R model with an APS-C sensor. We think this rumor has no foundation, and doesn’t make any sense either. The rumor is hard to die, even after a Canon exec stated clearly that there will be no EOS R with APS-C sensor (machine translated): “Since EOS R is a full-size system, it can not be downsized to EOS M size. EOS M has a role/existence value as an APS-C system. It’s obviously a rumor that excites people and causes a lot of talk.

The Canon exec statement above is interpreted by some people as just meaning that the RF mount and the ergonomics of the EOS R can not be reduced to the smaller form factor of the EOS M line. In other words: the EOS M system is the compact and consumer oriented mirrorless APS-C system and it will soon have a more professional oriented APS-C sibling with the EOS R form factor. That sibling would be a mirrorless version of the next EOS 7D series camera, an EOS 7D Mark III in the housing of an EOS R. There are no hints about when such an EOS R model might be announced.

We think this doesn’t mask any sense, even if it is feasible from an engineering point of view. We recommend you don’t get to excited on this rumor, take it with a (huge) grain of salt. Do you think we might be wrong? Tell us what you think in the poll below and in the comment section.

Next Canon EOS R (high resolution) Model To Be Announced Before Photokina 2019, Most Likely

Canon Eos R

It’s season of the Canon EOS R rumors. A lot of wild speculation are filling our inbox and surfacing allover the web.

While a recent interview with a Canon exec has probably killed most of the potential rumors of the next months, there is still stuff to talk about.

We’ve been told on multiple occasions that Canon has a high resolution EOS R model in development. This was also pretty clearly spoken out by another Canon exec during an interview. The question is when the EOS R high resolution camera will be announced.

Most of the people we have talked to seem to agree that Canon will announced this camera before Photokina 2019 (which happens in May). That makes sense. Photokina is likely the most important event for the photographic industry. Moreover, the fact that Nikon launched a high res model makes it likely Canon will do the same. A mirrorless camera with the same resolution of the EOS 5Ds (R) appears to be a good idea. I guess a lot of photographers would appreciate.

The EOS R system is here to stay, and we can be sure Canon will push it better and stronger than they do with their EOS M system.

Stay tuned.

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III Set To Be Announced Early 2019, With 4K and DPAF?

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark Iii

It’s a while that the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III is rumored.

Latest rumor suggests Canon may announced the PowerShot G7 X Mark III in January 2019, just ahead of CES 2019.

The PowerShot G7 X Mark III is rumored to have 4K video with Dual Pixel Auto Focus, a new image sensor, a slightly longer zoom range and new ergonomics.

Take it with a grain of salt. We got no hints about the specifications for the PowerShot G7 X Mark III. As plausible as the suggested specs may be, they also sound a bit to good to be true. On the 0ther hand it’s surely true that the PowerShot G7 X Mark II is due for replacement.

All PowerShot G7 X Mark III rumors are listed here.

Stay tuned.
