Two new EOS M lenses coming this year, a prime lens before March 2018? [CW3]

canon rumorscanon rumors
Rumor has it Canon will announce two lenses for the company’s EOS M mirrorless system.

The two EOS M lenses are said to be a prime and zoom lens. The prime lens is said to be announced for CP+ (March 2018). No hints are given for the focal length, or for other specifications.

New EF-M lenses are rumored since a while, and we got a few suggestions it could be 35mm prime lens. However we haven’t heard anything since a long time about an EF-M 35mm lens so we do not think this old rumor is still reliable. The last time we heard something in this direction was one year ago.

All truth to be told, back in November 2016 we got a rumor saying Canon would announce a prime and a zoom lens for the EOS M system in 2017. It didn’t happen and since then I lost a bit of confidence about Canon’s plan with the EOS M system. A system that’s recognised to be powerful but to dramatically lack native lenses. Since the EOS M5 () and EOS M6 () you can properly use almost all EF and EF-S lenses via adapter (). Never the less it’s not the same as having good native lenses (something you get if you buy into Fuji’s mirrorless system).

Back to the rumor. If Canon is set to announce a new EF-M lens to display at CP+, it almost for sure will happen along with the announcement of Canon’s next mirrorless camera, the EOS M50.

Stay tuned!

Canon EOS M50 announcement for CP+ 2018 [CW4]

Canon Eos M100

Canon’s next mirrorless camera, the EOS M50 will be announced before CP+ 2018, one of our sources suggests. CP+ 2018 happens at the beginning of March 2018.

So far, we know as good as nothing about the EOS M50 (all rumors). However, I speculate it’s somewhat of a mid-range MILC by Canon, i.e. positioned between the EOS M5/M6 (price & specs) on the top and the amazing little EOS M100 (price & specs) at the bottom. A 24MP sensor is to expect, as well as some of the technology featured on the EOS M5/M6.

If the suggestion of an announcement in March 2018 is to be trusted, then we will soon have some leaks for specifications and images of the EOS M50.

Stay tuned.

Steve Huff posted his review of the new Canon EOS M100 (specifications, and price in your country), Canon’s latest and most entry-level mirrorless camera.

From his conclusion:

If you are starting out and want a small mirrorless, check it out.

If you want an upgrade from your phone, this will do it without killing your bank acct.

If you want a small “cute” camera that can fit in a bag, purse, or big pocket then the M100 should be on your list

If you want a great travel camera for video or photo without spending huge money on a serious camera with more features, the M100 should be looked at.

If you want to get into VLOGGING without spending a ton up from I would recommend the Canon M6 as it has a mic input but even the M100 can do for you in the beginning. The video AF is very quick and snappy. IQ is nice and color is typical Canon. Which is good.

So for beginners, those who want to upgrade from a phone, anyone getting into vlogging, those who travel and want small or anyone who just wants a fun point and shoot style IC camera. Read the review…

The Canon EOS M50 may be a midrange MILC, comes in 2 colors & 2 kits (and there is also an EOS 2000D/Rebel T7 coming)

Eos M50

Registrations of unreleased Canon gear showed up at the Eurasian Economic Commission. You can see the document above.

We already know that Canon will announce a new MILC named EOS M50. From the document above we learn the EOS M50 will come in two colors (black and white), and in two kits, respectively with the 15-45mm IS STM and the 18-150 IS STM lenses. The EOS M50 registration document can be seen here

Where will the EOS M50 be positioned in Canon’s mirrorless line-up? Given the two digits in the name, the the EOS M50 will most likely be positioned between the EOS M100 and the EOS M5/M6. A midrange MILC from Canon, so to say.

Another Canon camera was registered at the Eurasian Economic Commission, the EOS 2000D. Given that the EOS 2000D will replace the EOS 1300D (Rebel T6 in USA) it’s no surprise it comes as a kit with the  EF-S 18-55mm IS II lens. The EOS 2000D will most likely be named Rebel T7 in the States. The EOS 2000D registration document is here.
