Supposed Canon Rebel SL2 announcement date changed again – July 2017? [CW2]

Rebel SL2

A new rumor surfaced on the web. The long overdue Canon Rebel SL2 is now murmured to be announced in July 2017 (when other, unsubstantiated rumors suggest the EOS 6D Mark II may be announced).

Shipping is said to start in September 2017. A shipment two months after the announcement is unusual for an entry level Canon DLSR.

There is a lot of confusion going on with the next Canon announcements. Since when Canon started to be very secretive about their upcoming products rumors go wild.

Usually we get some intel about upcoming products (here and on other sites). Nothing leaked so far, neither about the EOS 6D Mark II nor for the Rebel SL2.

Specification wise we can expect the Rebel SL2 will have a feature set somewhere between the Canon [shoplink 43813]Rebel T7i[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 43814]EOS 77D[/shoplink].

Take this with a grain of salt. Rumor sites are in distress since Canon started to keep their stuff private.

We keep you posted, stay tuned.

Canon Rebel SL2 announcement in September 2017? [CW2]

Another Canon camera that is long overdue is the replacement for the Rebel SL1.

A new rumor suggests the Rebel SL2 will be announced in September. The Rebel SL2 may be smaller and lighter than the Rebel SL1, which still is the world’s smallest DSLR.

Specification wise we can expect a feature set between the Canon [shoplink 43813]Rebel T7i[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 43814]EOS 77D[/shoplink].

Stay tuned.

Some Canon mirrorless full-frame camera talk

canon rumors

Some new murmurings about the upcoming Canon mirrorless full-frame camera emerged over the web.

Although the rumor has a low credibility ranking, it is never the less interesting to see what’s suggested (some specs leaked first here on CW)

  • Canon may announce full frame mirrorless camera for Photokina 2018 (September)
  • EF mount will be native (we reported)
  • New exclusive image sensor for the camera.
  • New sensor technology required for the EF mount in a mirrorless application
  • No new “dedicated” lenses, but mirrorless will be “considered in all future EF lens design”
  • 4K video is considered a necessary feature in all full frame cameras
  • One full frame mirrorless camera body to start
  • There is testing at Canon of a more hybrid approach between DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras.

It’s difficult to discern if this is a “real rumor” (whatever that means) or if the list above is made up from logical thinking. However, each of the points above makes sense, some like native EF mount and 4K video were suggested before, and are very high on most people’s wish list.

Please note also this. 2017 is the year when Canon is supposed to eventually announce the Canon EOS 6D Mark II. While I hope there will be an EOS 6D Mark II, I also got more than one suggestion that Canon may not release the EOS 6D Mark II but instead announce a mirrorless full-frame camera.

The latest announcement rumor for the EOS 6D Mark II is July 2017, which I do not really believe to be true. We are just to close to July and still nothing reliable leaked. That’s weird.

We know very little about the EOS 6D Mark II (if there will ever be one). The list below is what was passed over to us in the last two years.

Some of the specifications above may well apply also to a mirrorless full-frame camera.

Canon developing a new “L”-grade telephoto lens (200-600mm)?

Ef 70-300mm
We got word Canon is working on a new “L”-grade telephoto lens. The new telephoto lens may be something in the 200-600mm range, with apertures not wider than f/4 nd likely not constant over the zoom range.

Canon has many powerful telephoto lenses in the “L” range of their offering, such as the amazing [shoplink 153]EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS[/shoplink], my favorite travel zoom, or the more far reaching and also heavier [shoplink 25455]EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS II[/shoplink], a favorite among wildlife photographer who can not afford or do not want to carry aroud the much heavier telephoto primes from Canon.

An EF 200-600mm lens would be handy for Canon. Sigma and Tamron are already offering lenses in this segment, for instance the popular [shoplink 25432]Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports[/shoplink] or the Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD, both more affordable than comprable Canon offerings.

Canon actively working on an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens?

EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II

This was murmured in the past, and got a new mention those days.

Rumor has it that Canon is developing an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS lens. Apparently, Canon was already working on this lens and produced some prototypes when the company was developing the [shoplink 2160]EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM[/shoplink]. The lens was not released so far, according to the rumor, because Canon deemed it to be too large and too heavy. Before releasing this lens, Canon will eventually work on reducing size and weight.

That’s all. No suggested announcement date nor specifications.

Canon Cinema EOS C200 to be announced next month, featuring 4K? [CW2]

EOS C100 Mark II rf mount cinema

Is Canon going to announce the Canon Cinema EOS C200 next month? That’s what a new rumor suggests.

The Canon Cinema EOS C200 may also feature 4K video. No specifications so far. It’s not clear if the EOS C200 will replace the EOS C100, or not. We heard about an EOS C100 replacement last year, and it was suggested it may have 4K.

I’m a bit puzzled by this rumor. First. I wonder why the EOS C200 wasn’t announced at NAB, which would have been the right stage for this camera announcement. Second, the EOS 6D Mark II may be announced in JulyI’m not sure Canon is going to announce to major camera upgrades one after the other in such a short time frame.

Stay tuned.
