Canon Working on Smaller DSLRs, Not Necessarily Mirrorless (?)

Canon
The Canon EOS M – a totally underestimated gem in Canon’s line-up

Thanks to the source who send the tip.

It appears Canon is investing resources in the development of smaller DSLRs, but not necessarily in mirrorless systems. Well, no one thinks Canon ever believed in MILCs. The rumour I got is saying that Canon has no plans to back up the whole mirrorless thing and prefers to invest resources in developing smaller DSLRs.

According to my source, Canon acknowledges that users want high-performing cameras that are as small as it can get. The Rebel SL1 was just the beginning of a development Canon is committed to evolve further. DSLRs that are as small as possible while maintaining the EF/EF-S mount (but see this interview where Canon says they consider a new mount type for 4/3 systems).

Interesting rumour. In some way it’s backed up by a previous rumour, suggesting that the next Rebel may have an EVF (electronic viewfinder). It is no secret that Canon never really wanted to make a killer mirrorless camera. Though I still think the EOS M is a wonderful and well performing little camera (it just got a lot of bad press by people who never really used it). I have it and I love it. Guess I am among a small group of fans of this camera.

What do you think about this rumor? I think it’s rather plausible to be true.

Canon EOS 6D Sales Figures Not Satisfying?

Canon Rumors writes

We’re told that Canon hasn’t been fully satisfied with the sales of the Canon EOS 6D […] We’re told that the next iteration of the camera is likely to move upmarket in features and pricing.

Man, really? I thought a full-frame camera with a sensor having a better high ISO performance than the EOS 5D Mark III (see here too), plus built-in WiFi and GPS, and with a street price often below $1,500, should selling like hotcakes. Curious rumor. Maybe the many 6Ds I see around are faked ones.

Help Canon not getting bankrupt, buy one today! A very good EOS 6D deal by a reliable eBay seller can be .

Upcoming Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L To Cost $3,000?

EF 11-24 f/4L

More confirmation surfaced suggesting we will soon see the EF 11-24mm f/4L. Here at CW we got a mention of a soon-to-come announcement a week ago, and there is a patent for a 11-24mm f/4 that was spotted in January 2014. The latest mention of this lens, which I am pretty sure will be announced in the near future, suggests it will have a retail price of $3,000. Hefty.

Canon’s Next Large Sensor Powershot Camera May Be Announced At Photoplus 2014

Large Sensor Powershot

Yesterday I reported about a video posted on Canon Netherland’s site, and the “groete zoom” (=big zoom) camera that gets mentioned in the video.

Today I was told that Canon will announce this camera at Photoplus 2014. Given that this camera already leaked in an official Canon video the announcement can’t be that far away. The same source also said that the upcoming Powershot will feature a Sony sensor as the Powershot G7 X does.

Canon recently mentioned this large sensor & big zoom Powershot camera in an interview. I am not sure if it will be announced at Photoplus but the new Powershot is definitely coming soon.

Stay tuned…

Large Sensor Powershot

Thanks Coen

We were already reporting that Canon will soon announce a new large sensor Powershot camera. This camera gets a mention by Canon itself in a videoclip on Canon Netherland’s website.

The video presents the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II and the new Powershot G7 X, and a “big zoom” (groete zoom) camera presented as “later model” (i.e. to be announced soon).

There is also a short description of the upcoming model (machine translated):

Canon is committed to be in a compact housing to offer. Notch picture quality, and The new model in the Expert Compact range combines a large sensor and powerful zoom for superb pictures from afar.

You can register to be notified when the new camera will be available. To see the video go on Canon Netherland’s website (translated), and scroll down.
