More Tidbits About What Canon Might Announce In The Next Days

Canon
This could be the upcoming Powershot G1 X II (but it possibly is a fake)

There has been some anticipation about what Canon is going to announce on Wednesday, February 12th, ready for CP+ (see list below). Now, some more information leaked, and there are interesting things that may come in the next days. Btw, the image above (showing the G1 X II) may be a fake (and most probably is).

In addition to the previously rumored stuff, these gear may be announced:

  • EVF-DC1 (External Viewfinder)
  • WP-DC53 (Water Proof Housing)
  • PowerShot D30
  • PowerShot SX700 HS

More gear to expect (previously leaked):

  • new DSLR below the Rebel SL1
  • PowerShot G1 X II
  • Canon PowerShot S200
  • Canon PowerShot SX280 IS, a new super-zoom compact camera
  • Possibly more PowerShot cameras

I am particularly thrilled by the electronic view-finder. It would be great if this EVF was not only meant for the G1 X II. In other words: will this EVF also work on the Canon EOS M and EOS M2?

Stay tuned.

Canon Powershot G1 X II Picture Leaked (Update: Image Faked?)

Powershot G1 X II

Update: is the image of the G1 X II faked? That’s what Northlight Images states after having examined the picture. The say the end of the zoom ring is too abrupt. Moreover, the camera body appears to less sharp than the lens. See the (edited) pic below. What do you think, fake or real?

Fake or not? (Image courtesy: Northlight Images)

Canon Rumors spotted the first leaked picture of the Canon Powershot G1 X II, the replacement for the PowerShot G1 X. As you can see the G1 X II has an EVF instead of an optical view-finder. The preliminary specs are:

  • Slimmer body, lighter weight
  • External EVF
  • 24-120 f/2-3.9 Lens.
  • DIGIC 6
  • Around $700 USD

Canon Powershot G1 X Successor and Other Gear To Be Announced February 12th?

Powershot G1 X

I have been told (thanks) that Canon will announce new gear on February 12th, one day before CP+ starts. One of the cameras that is going to be announced should be the successor of the Canon Powershot G1 X, the others should be DSLRs. The possible announcement of the G1 X replacement showed up also on other places.

No new specs of the PowerShot G1 X successor have been leaked so far, but we can expect something similar to the specs leaked some time go on the Chinese Xitek forum:

  • Same design as the G1X, with a slightly longer lens
  • DIGIC 6 Image Processor
  • 24 – 120mm f/2.8-5.8 lens
  • 20.2MP 1.5″ CMOS sensor
  • New optical zoom viewfinder with better image quality
  • 3.0″ LCD touch screen with 922,000 dots

Additionally [source: CR], it is now also rumored the G1 X successor could have WiFi and GPS. The camera should be available to the public at the end of April or beginning of May.

No word about the other gear that Canon might announce for CP+. Short time to wait, and then we will know.

New Tidbits About the EOS 7D Replacement – Eventually A 7D Mark II In Q3 2014

7d mark ii

A new rumor concerning the EOS 7D replacement surfaced. The rumor states that the replacement for the Canon EOS 7D (price & specs) will be announced in Q2 and released to the pubic in Q3 2014. And: The moniker EOS 7D Mark II appears to be back into the game.

It is suggested that a “lot of upcoming Canon camera kit (lenses, cameras and video) has been sent to Sochi” to be tested (as prototypes) during the Winter Olympics. Demo events for selected top customers should also be on the plan. And finally: “It was also mentioned that quite a few aspects of functionality were still ‘up for grabs’ and that any specs leaked out over the next month or two would still be very provisional“.

We heard contrasting rumors in the last month about the 7D replacement. I have been told that there will is no EOS 7D Mark II on the horizon, though a 7D replacement (read: a new APS-C flagship) is in the works but will come with a new name. I think that it can be taken for granted that there will be a new APS-C flagship. But for the time being we know very little. It could be rumored EOS-A1 with hybrid viewfinder.

Say tuned for more.
