Another Canon EOS 7D Replacement Rumor

EOS 7D Replacement

I think the Canon EOS 7D (price & specs) replacement is one of Canon’s the best kept secret ever. After a lot of contradicting rumors (here & here, not to mention Panasonic’s underspeced leak), a new rumor surfaced, again suggesting a possible announcement in March (as reported before).

EOS 7D successor in March 2014? Could be, but also not. Truth is that no one really knows what is going to happen. There will be a new APS-C flagship, sure thing, but so far no really reliable specs or features have leaked. Rumor has it that it could be a high-end DSLR with a hybrid viewfinder.

Stay tuned.

Three New Pixma Pro Photo Printers On The Horizon?

New Pixma Pro
Canon Pixma Pro-100.

Rumor has it that Canon may soon announce new Pixma Pro printers, as replacement for the Pixma Pro-1, Pixma Pro-10 and the Pixma Pro-100. No specs or features unfortunately.

The Pixma Pro-100 is often bundled with Canon DSLRs in a convenient kit, as this one: EOS 6D with the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS lens, a 32GB Sandisk memory card, and the Canon PIXMA PRO-100 photo printer (and photo paper), all on sale for $2099 at B&H Photo after a $400 mail-in rebate.

The Pixma Pro-100 has been nominated “printer of the year“.

Canon Working on EF-S 24mm STM Lens, And On A New USM Motor (C-USM)?

EF-S 24mm
EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens

New rumors surfaced on the web.

Canon may announce an EF-S 24mm STM lens later this year, some time in the Summer 2014. No specs so far.

And it is murmured Canon is working on a new USM motor technology, called C-USM (Compact Ultrasonic Motor). The new C-USM motor is said to appear first on a 50mm lens, and could also be announced later this year.

Both are new rumors, take with a grain of salt.

Canon May Announce A New FF High-End DSLR In March To Counter Nikon’s D4S Announcement On Feb. 25th

Nikon D4SNikon D4S

To be honest that’s mainly a Nikon rumor that came in with a Canon information as bonus. I have been told by a trusted source (thanks drphotorumor) that Nikon will officially announce the Nikon D4S on February 25th. That fits perfectly with information I got that Canon will soon follow with a competing DSLR, possibly announcing it in March 2013.

The D4S follows the Nikon D4, and competes with Canon’s [shoplink 4119]EOS-1D X[/shoplink]. If the rumor is reliable that would mean Canon could soon announce a new high-end DSLR. However, I don’t think that this DSLR would replace the EOS-1D X, it wold rather be a new high-end DSLR that will be placed beside the 1D X. That’s what I have been told in the past: that Canon is working on a new high-end full-frame DSLR that will surpass the 1D X feature-wise.

If you follow Canon Watch, you probably know that a general overhaul of Canon’s line-up and naming scheme is rumored (called by the source the biggest change in Canon’s history).

As usual, these are rumors and have to be taken as such, tough the source is trusted and was right in the past. Stay tuned.

Ibelux

Mirrorlessrumors reader “Zetton” sent in these pictures of the new Ibelux 40mm f/0.85 and Ibegon 12mm f/2.8 lenses. To date, the Ibelux is the fastest lens for native mirrorless system cameras, and will ship in March for $2,000. The Ibegon will have a price around $600, launch date is unknown yet.

The lenses will be available for the Canon EOS M mount (and for Fuji X, Sony E and Micro Four Thirds systems).

New Tokina AT-X PRO 24–70mm f/2.8 SD (IF) FX Lens Was On Show at CP+

Another competitor is entering the 24-70mm game for full-frame DSLRs. The Tokina AT-X PRO 24–70 mm f/2.8 SD (IF) FX was seen on display at CP+. The lens is rumored to be announced at Photokina later this year.

It’s getting crowded in the 24-70mm offerings. Besides Canon’s own EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM (price & specs) and EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM (price & specs), there are also the Tamron AF 24-70mm f/2.8 VC (price & specs) and the also rumored Sigma 24-70mm f/2 OS HSM (expected to be announced during 2014) not to mention the highly popular Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM (price & specs) and the new, outstanding Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM (price & specs), which is defined as the new reference standard for professionals by DxOMark.
