The Canon EOS R Mark II and EOS 5D Mark V Are On Canon’s Roadmap

Eos 5d Mark V

Wondered what’s going to happen with Canon’s full frame DSLR lineup? Well, Canon still wants to update the 5D series.

New rumor has it that both the Canon EOS 5D Mark V and the Canon EOS R Mark II showed up in an internal roadmap document.

We think it is out of doubt that Canon will replace the EOS 5D Mark IV, sooner or later, despite the success of the EOS R lineup. And it’s also to expect that Canon will announce a replacement for the EOS R, sooner or later. Canon is transitioning from DSLR and the EF mount to mirrorless and the RF mount, but it will not be a matter of a few years.

While the source of the rumor did not mention a timeframe, it’s safe to assume that both the EOS 5D Mark V and the EOS R Mark II will not be released that soon. Don’t expect it for the beginning of 2020. At least the EOS 5D Mark V might not be a 2020 affair but get released not earlier than 2021.

Stay tuned.

This Is The Nikon Z50, An APS-C Mirrorless Camera In The Z Lineup

Nikon Z50

It’s real. Nikon is going to release a new mirrorless camera in the Z lineup.

After the Nikon Z 6 and Nikon Z 7, both featuring a full frame sensor, the Nikon Z50 is the first camera with an APS-C sensor. The Nikon Z50 is expected to be announced in a few days.

Will Canon follow Nikon and also announce a mirrorless camera with an APS-C sensor in the EOS R lineup? We think not. The difference between he two manufacturers is, Canon already has a successful mirrorless lineup with the EOS M system, Nikon has not. Although it’s technically feasible, it doesn’t make much sense for Canon.

More Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Information Leaks (IBIS still rumored)

Canon Eos-1d X Mark Ii

We are getting closer to the announcement of Canon’s next top dog flagship DSLR, and some new bits come in.

A new set of rumored specifications for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III surfaced over the web. According to the source, the specifications below apply to a working prototype of the EOS-1D X Mark III.

  • 28.1mp full-frame CMOS
  • Up to 30fps still shooting
  • Dual DIGIC 9 (would be the first time the EOS-1D series would introduce a new processor)
  • IBIS
  • New and larger rear LCD, the source said it looked brighter too.
  • February announcement

This is the second time that IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation) is mentioned to be featured on the EOS-1D X Mark III (all rumors). And that sounds a bit weird to us. Why should Canon introduce IBIS on a top tier DSLR, which will most likely be bought by people already owning lots of expensive and image stabilised lenses? Wouldn’t it make more sense on a mirrorless camera? IBIS on a future Canon mirrorless camera has already been suggested by a Canon exec. For sure Canon filed a remarkable collection of patent applications dealing with IBIS. IBIS is coming to Canon cameras, that’s a sure thing. But will the EOS-1D X Mark III be the first to feature it?

However, announcement of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is expected in February 2020, so stay tuned for more.
