Canon RF 14-21mm f/1.4L Lens For EOS R Systems Coming 2020? [CW2]

Rumor has it that an RF 14-21mm f/1.4L lens for the Canon EOS R system is currently in advanced development stage and will likely be one of a couple of world’s first lenses coming for the RF mount in 2020.

There is an US patent application (2018-0314060) which supports the rumor.

We are usually cautious with rumors about gear which is said to be announced much later, as it is in this case. On the other hand, Canon stated more than one time that the RF mount will allow them to build “world’s first” lenses, hence a RF 14-21mm f/1.4L lens is in the realm of possibilities.

For a list of existing lenses for the Canon EOS R system have a look on what is on display at CP+ 2019.

Stay tuned.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Undergoing Field Testing?

canon eos-1d x mark ii

Rumor has it Canon has started to field test the replacement for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II.

The EOS-1D X Mark II was released in 2016 so it seems a bit early for an announcement. However, being this the top professional Canon DSLR it wouldn’t be strange if Canon spends a lot of time testing it.

Our bet is Canon will announce the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III before the Olympic games in 2020. So far no specifications have leaked.

Stay tuned.

No More Than 6 Canon RF Lenses Coming In 2019

Canon RF 85mm

Latest has it that Canon might announce two more RF lenses beyond the six lenses we already know they will announce. The rumor isn’t entirely clear about when Canon might announce these two lenses, citing some plans Canon might have had in the recent past and then abandoned, and considering 2020 too as the year for a possible announcement.

The focal lengths Canon might have up their sleeve are the RF 100-400mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM and RF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS. Both are supported by patent applications filed by Canon.

It’s pretty clear that Canon takes their EOR R system very seriously, and that the company will invest a lot in the development of the eco system (i.e. lenses). A lot of new RF lenses are set to hit the market in the next years, that’s for sure. For the same reason a lot of RF lenses related rumors will hit the Web in the next months.

Canon Has An EOS R Model With IBIS On Their Agenda

The image on top shows a slide that was presented during the Canon EOS R announcement/presentation (so we were told).

If real it might give us reason to think Canon is indeed working on a full frame mirrorless camera with IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation). Canon execs always stated that optical IS (i.e. image stabilisation in the lens) is the better technology. It seems they are about to change their mind, or maybe their just responding to user requests.

The Canon EOS RP, the company’s first entry level full frame mirrorless camera was announced yesterday. And it has a price that we didn’t expect from Canon. In an interview with Imaging Resource, Canon execs stated clearly that the EOS RP has the same internals as the EOS 6D Mark II, something we reported over two years ago.

I wonder when we will see a Canon mirrorless camera with IBIS, in one, two, three years?
