Recently I got hints from various sources (thanks) that Canon may not announce nor release the Canon EOS 6D Mark II in 2017.

A 2017 announcement for the EOS 6D Mark II seems indeed getting less likely. There are still no hints or serious suggestions neither about the specifications nor for the release date. There is a lot of speculation going around the web, looks mainly to be good to keep the EOS 6D Mark II buzz on.

Last year I got some weird rumors, suggesting Canon may not release an EOS 6D Mark II, but instead a mirrorless full-frame camera (see here and here). Well, doesn’t it appear more and more likely it may go this way?

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is long overdue

We now have reasons to think Canon is eventually taking mirrorless seriously. Canon has the skills and the know-how to build a truly professional mirrorless full-frame camera. Such a camera, if done seriously, may well take the place of an EOS 6D Mark II, both on the shelves and in the mind of photographers.

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is becoming somewhat of a mystery, with no reliable rumors about specifications so far.

Latest rumor have it Canon may announce the EOS 6D Mark II on April 21, just before NAB 2017. This date was murmured at The Photography Show 2017 in UK. Last rumors also pointed to an announcement around NAB 2017. However, things are a bit weird

First and foremost, if Canon is set to announce the EOS 6D Mark II in April, by the time there should have been some serious leaks. But there were not. All EOS 6D Mark II specification doing the rounds on the Internet leaked here at Canon Watch, and never made it beyond a CW3 rating. We still do not have the intel we usually have less than a month before an announcement. We even are not 100% sure that the EOS 6D Mark II is among the Canon gear that recently was registered at a certification authority. Moreover, the EOS 6D Mark II is pretty late on schedule.

And what about the voices saying there will be no EOS 6D Mark II but a full-frame mirrorless camera instead? This scenario is less implausible than some little informed people wants you to believe. On the other hand, the Canon EOS 6D has been such a huge market success for Canon that it’s hard to immagine they will not go further on that path.

There is still a list of Canon gear that was registered at certification authorities but has yet to be announced by Canon.

Please note: some sites are insisting the Canon EOS 6D Mark II is among the list. While this for sure captures the interest of the masses, it’s also good to be honest to say that there is no hint in the list pointing to the EOS 6D Mark II (which, btw, is late on schedule). The other Canon DSLR many want to spot in the list is the Canon EOS SL2, which I am sure will be announced soon.

The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is becoming more mysterious month after month. First, there are some persistent rumors (1 | 2) that there will be no EOS 6D Mark II but a mirrorless full-frame camera instead, and second, no one had any reliable intel about the EOS 6D Mark II so far. This is a bit unusual even for a company dedicated to secrecy like Canon.

It’s basically another rehash of our Canon EOS 6D Mark II rumors with some common sense-driven additions. So sorry to annoy you with stuff you already know, unfortunatley I have to post this too. Be aware that there is a possibility we will never see an EOS 6D Mark II but a fullframe mirrorless camera instead.

Another big question obviously concerns the announcement date. So far, end of Spring or Summer 2017 are the candidates. However, I still am not 100% sure there will be a Canon EOS 6D Mark II in the shape of a DSLR (more here).

Canon’s full-frame mirrorless camera will have same internals as EOS 6D Mark II [CW3]

After yesterday’s rehash of all our EOS 6D Mark II rumors, I am glad I’ve got a new and fresh rumor. This rumor should also redefine (=nullify) a weird EOS 6D Mark II rumor I got some time ago.

I’ve been told (thanks) that the upcoming full-frame mirrorless camera we are sure Canon is working on, will have the same internals (bar the mirror box etc) as the upcoming EOS 6D Mark II. That’s to say that Canon’s full-frame mirrorless camera will most likely have the same specifications as the EOS 6D Mark II. They will relate like the EOS M5 and the EOS 80D.

This rumor is credible. Building a full-frame mirrorless camera using the EOS 6D Mark II components makes a lot of sense. Taking a successful DSLR and stripping it of all the mirror box related stuff worked with the EOS M5, it will work again with the full-frame MILC. This must work fine for Canon: taking the sensor, circuits, electronics, AF etc from a DSLR and fitting everything in a mirrorless camera body.

So far, this is the rumored specification list for the EOS 6D Mark II, which we think will also apply to Canon’s full-frame mirrorless camera.

  • Tilting LCD (we reported first here)
  • Touchscreen (we reported first here)

  • Aiming for a sub $2000 USD body only price (we told you first here)

  • Possibly 4K in some capacity (we were told no 4K, 1080p 60fps instead)

  • Larger viewfinder (does not apply to MILC)
  • New AF system (we reported first here, does not apply to the MILC)

The EOS 6D Mark II is expected to be announced before Summer 2017. I not sure yet when Canon’s full-frame MILC will be announced. It may be towards the end of 2017.

It appears that many of the Canon EOS 6D Mark II specifications we leaked in the past found their way into a list leaked by other sources, starting with the 28MP sensor we were always told the EOS 6D Mark II will have, and leaked in April 2015.

This is the latest specification list for the Canon EOS 6D Mark II that leaked over the web:

The announcement for the Canon EOS 6D Mark II is expected to happen before Summer 2017, with shipping starting during summer.

Well, it’s a great pleasure and satisfaction seeing so many of the EOS 6D Mark II rumors I got and reported in the past getting a confirmation few months before the expected announcement of the EOS 6D Mark II. It’s just a pity they always forget to credit us.
