Canon Working On A Pro EOS R With Hybrid EF/RF Lens Mount?

Top 10 Cameras Canon Rumors Full Frame Mirrorless Camera Canon Eos R Pro Eos R Canon Lens Explorers Of Light

A pro EOS R model with a hybrid EF/RF lens mount is rumored over the web.

It’s suggested the upcoming pro EOS R, i.e. a Canon EOS R body aimed a photography professionals and on the same tier as the EOS-1D X lineup, might be able to natively mount both RF and EF mount lenses.

Being able to mount both EF and RF mount lenses without using an adapter would be a killer feature. It’s not surprising it is rumored for the fabled EOS-1D X-like professional EOS R that might be announced next year, or in 2021 (all rumors).

As weird as this rumor may sound we give it some credit. While technically complex to implement it is surely not impossible, and we know Canon has the know how and the skills to do it. On other words: it’s feasible for Canon.

What do you think, is this rumor plausible? All Canon rumors are listed here.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Rumor, Another Mention Of 24MP Sensor Resolution

Canon EOS 1D X Mark III Rumor Canon Cameras Big Game

Canon already announced the development of their next professional flagship, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. Still, here is a Canon EOS-1D X Mark III rumor for you.

Despite announcing the development, Canon did not disclose the sensor resolution of the EOS-1D X Mark III. 24MP were already rumored to come to the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III, and we just got another confirmation from a source we trust.

There are no real doubts left about the announcement of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. An authoritative source confirmed it will be at the beginning of 2020, February being a good candidate.

This is what we know for sure so far about the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III (all rumors):

  • All-new CMOS sensor
  • Dual-pixel 525-point CMOS AF with 90/100% coverage horizontally and vertically
  • New Digic Processor
  • 10-bit HEIF file capture (in addition to JPEG and Raw)
  • Max 16fps capture via viewfinder, and 20fps in live view (with AF)
  • Dual CF Express card slots
  • 10-bit, 4:2:2 4K/60 video with C-Log
  • Backlit buttons

Some sites claim IBIS (In Body Image Stabilisation) will be featured on the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. We think this is highly unlikely. There is no reason to doubt that Canon is working on IBIS, given the remarkable collection of patent applications dealing with it and the fact that another Canon exec told the world about. But it’s likely that the first Canon camera to feature it will be a mirrorless, and not the flagship DSLR.

We are sure the next Canon EOS-1D X Mark III rumor will surface soon. Stay tuned. In the meantime there is an interview with the mastermind behind the EOS-1D X series to read.

Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Rumor, 24MP Sensor Suggested

Canon EOS 1D X Mark III Rumor Canon Cameras Big Game

Canon announced the development of the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III a few weeks ago. Since they did not disclose all the specifications there is always room for a new Canon EOS-1D X Mark III rumor.

It suggested the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III might sport a 24MP image sensor. It seems the people that is testing the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is not allowed to use a memory card in the camera, so for the time being there is no reliable intel available about the image sensor. This might change in the future. However, a 24MP is considered likely.

We expect the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III to get announced to the masses at the beginning of February 2020. An early 2020 announcement has been confirmed by an authoritative source In the meantime I’m sure we will see more Canon EOS-1D X Mark III rumor surface.

About Canon EOS Ra

Canon’s first full-frame mirrorless camera dedicated to deep sky and night sky photography

Capture the intricacies of a starry night sky with the new EOS Ra camera — Canon’s first full-frame mirrorless camera dedicated to deep sky and night sky photography. Building on the success of the EOS R, the EOS Ra offers 30x magnification in both the viewfinder and in Live View shooting for more accurate focus.

Modified Filter for Enhanced Night Sky Recording

Positioned in front of the CMOS imaging sensor, The EOS Ra’s infrared-cutting filter is modified to permit approximately 4x as much transmission of hydrogen alpha rays at the 656nm wavelength, vs. standard EOS R cameras. This allows for a higher transmission of deep red infrared rays emitted by nebulae, without requiring any other specialized optics or accessories.

Original post:

Ahead of the its announcement, product images of the Canon EOS Ra leaked over at Nokishita. The product leaflet already leaked weeks ago.

The Canon EOS Ra is an EOS R full frame mirrorless camera modified for astrophotography. While the camera operation mode is the same as the EOS R, the EOS Ra has approximately four times the transmittance of hydrogen-alpha light (656 nm) as the EOS R.

Canon eos Ra

Photographs of subjects that reflect a lot of infrared light will therefore appear redder than they actually are. This is good for astrophotography and less optimal for normal photography. With the EOS Ra it may not be possible to obtain an appropriate color balance and uneven colors may result when shooting normal subjects.

Announcement coming soon, stay tuned.

More Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Rumors Surface After Development Announcement

Canon EOS 1D X Mark III Rumor Canon Cameras Big Game

Some new Canon EOS-1D X Mark III rumors surfaced on the web after Canon’s development announcement.

So far some of the previously rumored features have proven to be unreliable (6K video, 30fps, IBIS). Some people in the industry thinks Canon did the development announcement for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III to counter the speculations of the rumor mills.

The latest rumored specifications for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III are of the vague nature, and for that reason might be even correct:

  • The battery life is nothing short of amazing, much better than the EOS-1D X Mark II
  • The silent shutter mode in liveview is absolutely silent
  • The eye AF works incredibly well (via liveview we are assuming)
  • The AF-ON trackpad is so innovative, works fast and it very precise. In the source’s words, “it’s a real revolution. Nobody will be using the old joystick”

It’s plausible that Canon might introduce these features on their next full frame flagship.

We now know for sure that the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III will be released early 2020, most likely in February.
