Canon RF 85mm f/2 IS STM Macro vs RF 85mm f/1.2L Comparison (worth 4 times the price?)

Canon RF 85mm F/1.2L Review

Canon RF 85mm f/2 IS Macro vs RF 85mm f/1.2L comparison review. The latter sells at four times the price of the former. Is it worth?

The Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L is one of the boutique lenses for the Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless system, an it gets compared to the $600 RF 85mm f/2 IS STM. Fair? Well, interesting at least since the investigative question is “is it worth to pay 4 times the price for the red ringed one?”.

Alex Barrera wanted to know and with the help of his wife acting as model he compares the two lenses.

A Canon RF 100mm f/2L IS Macro Lens Might Be In The Pipeline

Canon RF 100mm F/2.8L

A new rumor suggests Canon is set to announce a A Canon RF 100mm f/2L IS Macro lens for the Canon EOS R system.

Apparently the A Canon RF 100mm f/2L IS Macro is already field tested by selected photographers. The lens might get announced within 2020.

No specifications have been leaked so far.

Our take: it’s likely that Canon is set to release also for the EOS R system what is a classic macro lens in their DSLR lineup. It’s just a matter of time.

Stay tuned.

RF Mount Macro Lenses For The EOS R Might Be In The Works, Patents Suggest

RF Mount Macro

I think it’s just logic to expect that Canon will continuously release RF mount versions of most of the lenses currently existing for the EF mount. RF mount macro lenses for sure too.

Two Canon patent applications in Japan (2020-60660A and 2020-60661A, spotted by Hi Lows Note), show that Canon R&D departments are working on such lenses, and we think here too we have a patent application that might hit the market sooner or later. Optical formulas for RF mount macro lenses with focal lengths of 90mm, 100mm and 180mm, all f/2.8, are discussed in the patent applications.
