Canon EOS R6 And EOS R5 Announcement June 2020, Eventually? (update: or July?)

Canon Eos R5 Announcement

Update: the source of the rumor now suggests July 2020 for the announcement of the EOS R5.

Are Canon’s next generation mirrorless cameras going to be announced next month? Latest EOS R6 and EOS R5 announcement rumor suggest so.

It’s very likely that Canon had to postpone the EOS R5 announcement because of the global pandemic. Reports about a possible shipping delays after the announcement also emerged.

However, it seems now the time might have been come and that the EOS R5 announcement will happen soon, along with the EOS R6 and a bunch of lenses. June 2020 appears to be the month when Canon will eventually fully announce their game-changing mirrorless camera, the Canon EOS R5.

Canon already partially disclosed specifications and features (1 | 2) of the EOS R5, and there is not much left to discover but the price. After the last specification reveal there are even some first hands video to watch. All R5 coverage is listed here.

And what about the price? We can only speculate so far. Sure, it won’t be inexpensive given the impressive set of features (8K video!). The EOS R5 is a game changer for the industry.

Stay tuned.

Canon EOS R5 Price Around $6000? Leaked Retailer Information Suggests

Canon Eos R5 Price

Update: the retailer changed the price to a AU$200 deposit, and added:

THIS IS JUST A WITHHOLDING DEPOSIT THAT’S FULLY REFUNDABLE. WE’LL CONTACT YOU ONCE WE HAVE FIRM PRICING

Still, AU$10,499 is a weird placeholder, isn’t it?

Original post:

An Australian camera retailer lists a Canon EOS R5 price that doesn’t seem at all to be a placeholder.

The Canon EOS R5 is listed at 10,499 Australian Dollars, which converts to approximate US$6254.

Too much? Not sure given the impressing features the Canon EOS R5 is packed with (all EOS R5 information is listed here), including 8K video.

An updated report about the EOS R5 specifications can be found here. Unfortunately it seems that the COVID-19 pandemic might delay release and shipment of the R5.

During Canon’s latest live-streamed announcement (you can watch it again here) Canon revealed a second teaser about the Canon EOS R5 after the development announcement and a subsequent reveal of more specifications. All R5 coverage is listed here.

After the last teaser, some EOS R5 hands-on and first impression videos have been published.

What do you think? This might be close to the real Canon EOS R5 price, isn’t it?

Stay tuned.

There have been a lot of complains about how recent camera releases are not good enough and some even claimed a camera being “dead on arrival”. The chase for camera perfection is getting out of hand and honestly, quite pointless. The camera is just a tool, and seriously, the cameras we have today are so much more powerful and capable than any other cameras released more than 10 years ago. We should shift our focus away from demanding more and more and more and truly look into ourselves and ask ourselves – why are we not happy with our own photographs? Is the camera truly to be blamed?

HDR PQ HEIF: Breaking Through the Limits of JPEG – Canon Singapore

As Canon’s latest flagship professional DSLR camera, the EOS-1D X Mark III boasts amazing continuous shooting speeds and support for 5.5K RAW movie recording, but let’s not ignore its various improved still shooting features. In this article, we take a closer look at its support for the HDR PQ HEIF format, which takes still image shooting to a whole new frontier.

Gear that changed my (photographic) life: the Canon PowerShot G3 – DPReview

It’s hard to believe that the Canon G-series is almost 17 years old, and while technology has certainly marched forward, ‘G cameras’ have consistently been a favorite of enthusiasts and even pros.

The gear that changed my (photographic) life: the Canon EOS 10D – DPReview

The 10D was a substantially new camera compared to the models that preceded it, and it replaced the D60 with an almost indecent haste (the D60 had been on the market for little more than a year before the 10D came along). Compared to the plastic-bodied D30/D60 it was better built, featured a far superior rear LCD (with a usable magnification feature) offered a more rounded styling, closer in spirit to the EOS-1D series, and was much quicker in operation.

8K and then some: what the Canon EOS R5’s video specs mean – DPReview

Canon kickstarted the success of the stills/video hybrid ILC with the introduction of the EOS 5D Mark II in 2008. Since then it appears to have focused most of its video efforts on its Cinema EOS line of professional video cameras.

However, as part of its drip-feed of EOS R5 specs, Canon has spelled out a lot more about its video capabilities. And, from what’s been said, it looks like the biggest leap forward in video for Canon’s main EOS line since that launch 12 years ago.

We already knew that the EOS R5 was going to be able to shoot at 12 fps with its mechanical shutter and 20 in e-shutter mode and that it was going to shoot 8K, but the more detailed video specs are worth digesting…

Canon’s change of direction – News Shooter

It wasn’t that long ago where we were wondering what Canon was doing. While their competition was releasing new and innovative products, Canon seemed to be content to move along at its own pace. Well, how times have changed.

The ‘new’ Canon is now bold, innovative, and releasing products that are once again exciting the filmmaking community. With the release of the C500 Mark II, today’s announcement of the C300 Mark III, and the EOS R5’s specifications coming to light, Canon now seems to be firmly back on track.

Unboxing the new Canon EOS-1DX Mark III – Photofocus

I opened the shipping box only to find another box inside. The fine print on the white box’s label revealed that it was from Canon. I found that this box held even more boxes. Inside was the EOS-1DX Mark III box, a SanDisk CFexpress 64GB card box and another one with a CFexpress card reader.

Canon EOS RP Review Conclusion: The affordable Canon RP brings full-frame fun to a wider audience – Imaging Resource

While it’s not the newest camera under the sun, the compact Canon RP is an important camera, particularly given its price point for as a full-frame camera. The little Canon EOS RP is, at this point in time, Canon’s second full-frame mirrorless camera, coming after the mid-range EOS R.

How 1987 Led to Canon’s Domination of Photography – Fstoppers

Perhaps the single biggest seismic shift in the camera market took place in 1987 with the announcement of Canon’s EOS (Electro-Optical System), crucially unleashing the EF lens mount, which removed all mechanical linkages, introducing significant improvements to autofocus. It additionally incorporated the largest throat diameter of any SLR of the time, which enabled Canon to produce the fastest SLR lens in the shape of the EF 50mm f/1.0! However, the EF mount broke compatibility with the previous FD mount, requiring users to use mount converters or upgrade their lenses.

Canon EOS R5 Release Date May 16? It Seems So

Eos R5 Release

The Canon EOS R5 release day might be May 16, 2020.

That’s what leaked from a Facebook post of a German camera retailer, Foto Hamer. The picture on top says: “Experience the new Canon EOS R5 live on May 16, 2020“.

We think this date is very likely to be reliable, and that the EOS R5 release date is indeed May 16. The final announcement of the EOS R5 was already rumored to happen in May, so this fits.

Canon RF 70-135mm f/2L USM Lens For The EOS R System Coming 2020?

Rf 70-135mm

Not the first time an RF 70-135mm f/2L USM lens for the EOS R full frame mirrorless system is mentioned.

Now a new rumor suggests Canon might announce the Canon RF 70-135mm f/2L USM in Q4 2020. Apparently the lens is already tested by a selected group of photographers.

Note that the lens has no image stabilization. And that’s to expect, given that we know for sure that IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization) is featured on the EOS R5 and EOS R6, and likely on every future Canon mirrorless camera.

The next Canon cameras we are expecting are the EOS R5 and EOS R6. However, the global pandemic might affect both release and shipping. The pandemic has already had a strong impact on Canon’s financial results.

Stay safe.

Canon EOS R6 Announcement Postponed To July 2020?

Canon Eos R6 Rumor

A new Canon EOS R6 rumor surfaced, suggesting the announcement might be postponed to July 2020.

So far, despite rumors suggesting possible shipping delays, the announcement was expected for May 2020. But maybe that’s not the case. Latest rumor suggests July 2020 as announcement date. The source does not mention if this delay has to do with the COVID-19 pandemic, but we guess it has.

With the announcement getting delayed, the EOS R6 will not begin shipping before August or September 2020. Very unlikely earlier.

These are the rumored Canon EOS R6 specifications:

  • 20mp full-frame CMOS sensor
  • IBIS
  • 12fps mechanical and 20fps electronic.
  • 4K @ 60p
  • FullHD @ 120p
  • Dual card slots
  • No top-down screen
  • Lower resolution EVF than the EOS R5
  • Build quality not as good as the EOS R5
  • New battery (Not sure if it’s the same as the EOS R5)
  • July 2020 launch

All EOS R6 rumors are listed here.
